Not only is the troon pandering excruciating. But they also ruined a pretty good layed pun. Since they often refer to crews "nakama" in OP, and also "nekama" is a slang term for guys who play women in MMOs.
In retrospect if they were gonna butcher the original Japanese to use recognizable English words, they had "Catfish" right there on a plate with an already nautical theme and they passed it up. For shame.
I mean, if you translate anything from Japanese you lose like 3 puns per minute because of how ridiculous they are about that.
Localizers must die.
that's not even localization, since okama are not "trans women", just gay dudes crossdressing
pure subversion
That's what American trans used to be, for some reason they jumped to actually being women not just crossdressing
But that is what most "trans women" are with extra steps.
Something, something, cultural appropriation...
Leftoids have made localization synonymous subversion, and it's been that way for many years now.
The guy has a power to change his and other people's sexes. Yes, it's fiction, but it's also cannon.
Do you even watch One Piece? It's a major aspect of the character.
So nothing like "trans women". :)
Nothing like real life. Correct. Fiction. Wait... Or is that exactly like real life? As real life is now fiction?
Ivankov changes himself into a woman when he feels like it, which happened once or twice throughout hte series, and also changes other okama when they want to, but they're explicitly attracted to men, which is hammered down in Sanji's timeskip experience
not to mention his power is to alter people's hormonal systems, which can do quite more than changing a person's sex, for example it can cure the most lethal venom (though at the cost of the person's remaining lifespan)
so yes, i've been reading the series for over a decade, thanks for asking
So, do you consider this translation a concern, and why?
because last i checked, there's a difference between crossdressing gay dudes attracted to men and "trans women" recording themselves masturbating in womens restrooms and reading about sex to little kids
Hey, I asked about the translation in this fictional fantasy story for adults. Not a minutes reading of your local DNC meeting.
you may pick one, and while you do i'm done engaging with your at best 3/10 baiting attempts, buddy
I always thought New Kama was a portmanteau of the Japanese words New-half (transvestite, somewhat derogatory) and Okama (another term for transvestite, typically homosexual, sometimes as a prostitute). It plays off as a humorous continuation of Mr. 2's Okama Way slogan. It also almost sounds like Japanese Engrish for "newcomer". The whole linguistic and lore humor is pretty much lost.
It should be noted, though, that the mentally ill (even in Japan) are trying to appropriate those words to mean pre-dick removal trannies.
Fool me once…
Can we get some youtuber like Hero hei or YellowFlash to make a video about this?
So they are using the wrong pronoun for a fictional magical sex changing tranny? Again, I must ask what is the controversy? The character is inappropriate for young children regardless to which words you use.
Just as Rocky Horror is.
Unsurprisingly for someone trying to equivocate for allowing troon propaganda to continue to spread, you seem not to understand what pronouns are. New Kama is not a pronoun, it is a proper noun my friend, the capitalization is a clue for you for next time.
It's a tranny. Pretending it is not, is an entire community tricking themselves by extolling Japanese gay boy love culture.
Correct. I do not care.
That's what you, and people like you have been doing this whole time in accepting this story line, and not simply addressing it as fantasy fiction unfit for children.
50 years of goal post moving and suddenly, this localization is too far. You'll forget about it tomorrow, as you accept this, and continue to blame me.
Again, I do not care. Keep your pronoun knowledge to yourself.
They're not wrong. But they are also not right.
It's important to remember that this is a fictional world. Were these thing are possible. Unlike in reality.

And yes. Taking all the subtly out of it makes it stupid. If I wanted to get hit in the face with a dead fish, I would visit the whore house above the wet market in China town.
You know kids watch one piece right?
Emporio Ivankov is a tranny. Has been for over a decade now. He swaps peoples sexes. You are mad at me for pointing this out? Or maybe that I called it fiction, for a fictional world? You tell me.
Be prepared to be really angry then. That is a fact regardless as to how the story is translated. Making the whole complaint about bad translations, pointless.
This story is full of blood sex and death. Don't let your kids watch adult cartoons without supervision.
While there is plenty of blood, there is very little death in OP, just a handful of useful deaths like Ace and Whitebeard, as well as Gol D. Roger to setup the show. Most bad guys aren't killed, and just get left to escape/attack again/etc later. There is next to 0 sex in One Piece, just some sexualized designs on women and the traditional trope of a pervert/come-on-strong character like Sanji.
It's a show for children, its not a show for adults specifically, it's in shonen(young boy) jump, is broadcast in Japan during primetime when kids would normally watch anime, and is hugely popular over there.
Japanese people are just more subtle with the way they deliver this kind of shit, and even if Ivankov is considered a tranny for any reason, he still calls himself a new kama and is part of the new kama group. They are just a separate thing for that country since they haven't been pozzed as much yet.
I see your point.
Now I just need to figure out why people find this comments to be controversial:
Or this one:
Which were the only two points I made, that seems to be drawing a negative reaction. That everyone wants to down vote, yet not address.
I think regardless of if it is fiction or not, people don't like their interests being messed with or wrongly politicized. And even if people here aren't interested in One Piece, a lot of us are just sick of tranny stuff, so any (seeming) defense of it would be looked down on.
I think people are reading way too much into my statements, while continuing to defend a magical sex changing boy lover who changes peoples sex. I mean, come on. I didn't do that. That's what One Piece fans have been accepting and defending for the past decade. They put Sanji in a dress for God's sake!
Let me reiterate this. It's not that it's 'fiction', it's that it's 'fantasy'. As in Trannys are not real, as the whole world it takes place in is 'magical'. It's all based on magic. Unlike the real world, where such people can not actually exit, outside of a few thousand hermaphrodites being exploited for a grift.
And none of this seems to be getting through to anyone here. People are assuming since, I acknowledge that this is fiction, I am pushing trans as acceptable, and for kids. That's quite the gap to jump.
Because I said, "They're not wrong. But they are also not right."
