Inb4 it gets overruled because its hurting the OF "entrepreneurs"
In all seriousness though, do they not realize that by forcing the big porn websites to enforce the above- Thousands more alternatives will just pop up without the restrictions? These thousands more won't have the same limitations and the kids will just get exposed to even worse shit.
Who also defines what is considered harmful content? Because technically Reddit contains NSFW content, is Reddit now an explicit pornography website?
Going full dystopian, I give it a few years until every citizen is forced to hand over facial ID to browse the web; It'll help them hunt down the people who disagree with their politics easier.
Yup. All the talk on this site about the slippery slope from people who either don't notice when it happens because they're in favor of it or they're just completely oblivious to the gunshots coming from their own tents.
From browsing frontpage, to browsing /r/all, to happening across some gonewild stuff, and before you know it you're into bambi sissy hypno funko fecal puppy stepping boba fett cakefarts.
Pretty sure that the reason Reddit is a private company is because if they go public, it will be revealed that at least half (and probably upwards of 75%) of their website is just porn. It's an illicit site with nice window-dressing.
They'll never do it. Pretty sure in like 2016-2017, When The Donald filled the main page because they accidentally lifted the shadowban on it for a day, they also accidentally revealed that half of the site was just pornography. Considering how many more porn subreddits have started and grown spectacularly since then, I'd wager that it's probably 65-70% now. They would have to reveal that number to investors and the whole thing comes crumbling down.
Any MP who gets caught verifying their identity is going to have it "leak" unless they comply with the terms of their blackmailing by the political party.
The media is focusing on adult entertainment websites but it would also have to be applied to digital age rated content or anything not deemed safe for kids or work. In the UK we have the concept of the "watershed" that determines safe for kids content before 9pm on TV and 24 hours on radio.
Not sure how that would work with age restricted video games to comply with the law and ensure kids aren't given the controller once the age check has been performed?
Didnt they already have checks where you have to enable porn via the internet provider? If that failed these things will also fail. And the people which cant circumvent it will just watch twitch streamers or look at instagram. What would be funny if most sites refuse to comply and then they have to block them in the UK. And they will have to back peddle, even as an adult I dont feel inclined to get a camera, special government id which usually costs money or give every site creditcard info.
They already do (enabled by default) but the new law goes much further. It has the wide reaching power to protect women and children and that includes preventing children from accessing age restricted digital content and ensuring that the person viewing the content matches the photo ID on file for that individual. It's to stop someone 18 or over doing the check and then handing over the phone/computer/controller to someone under 18.
As a side note, I noticed recently that one brand of webcam is being sold in Europe with "Face ID" attached to its description. Coincidence?
So that camera checks regulary while using it that the right person is on the phone or pc? Wouldnt be surprised if they then can also see via the iris reflection what you are looking at. Either way I think this sounds so intrusiv and annoying even for adults that it will probably flop like it should. And amazon doesnt have any cameras big brands pushing that here at least not in the title.
I assume they consider promotion of sodomites to be safe for kids

Porn is irrelevant. This will be used to shut down anybody who posts or tries to see wrong think.

You're all fucking frauds and I hate you.
Reddit is definitely a coomer groomer website.

Assuming Reddit will ever IPO. They've been saying they'd do it in the summer, and now it's winter.

I never thought I would see the back alley abortion argument to defend online porn.
I'll wager they'll rebrand as a "girlfriend experience", drop the nudity and learnt the lessons from the first time they tried this.
They'll still have to age verify their account holders though if they want to be legally accessed in the UK.
I just want my wanking loicense.

What going to be their "tiananmen square" or "Israel has nukes" phrase that gets them kicked off the internet?
"London used to be an English city"

How many years until some conservative's face scans are leaked to the Sun? Headline "Face of a hypocrite"
My main gripe with this article is the use of the phrase "young-looking adults", but I tend to bungle basic reading, so wtf do I know...
Welcome to the brave new world of State mandated granny porn fapping sessions.
