Yup. They found him competent to stand trial meaning that he's just another violent ape who needs to be kept away from civilized society. The sad thing is that even if he gets the max sentence and by some miracle is forced to serve all of it he'll only be in his late 40s when he gets out and does it again. Hopefully he fucks with the wrong person behind bars and they solve the problem for us.
And the mother's pleading is an attempt to prevent this, regardless of the cost to his next victim.
I'm going to disagree based on two pieces of info we have in just this screenshot.
His mother is a coddling piece of shit, and he is a fucking giant. He likely has never had pushback in the slightest against his tantrums. Only people he intimidated into compliance by just existing, or taught that it was worth giving in to avoid in the first place by being impossible to control if he did act up.
I don't say this to absolve him in the slightest, only to hypothesize that this is probably the closest thing to a single real consequence he has ever seen.
Ask me how I know mom's a spineless liberal who let him do whatever he wanted.

Liberals love these people because it's easy to push a narrative about evil Republicans and prison reform and broken, oppressive, heartless systems if you don't give it any consideration.
David Cross, asshole at large, has this stand up bit where he's walking the audience through the execution of a mentally retarded guy who was sentenced to death under Bush after killing people in Texas. He acts like the guy was some happy downs child giggling "haha seat belt for my arm" as he was being strapped into the execution chair by heartless guards, unaware and optimistic that he was going to be fine, that the guy was some victim of happenstance and persecuted by evil conservatives.
The reality was that the guy was not far off from Jason Voorhees and barely spoke, but sure as shit did not have a problem stomping the life out of people and animals on a whim.
So when you consider it, many slasher flick killers like Jason, Leatherface, Myers, etc are all at about that same mental level. The real myth is that rehabilitation is going to work.
He should've done the same bit for the murders. "Hee hee ha ha look at all the watermelon in this guy's head"
Heinlein puts it very simply in Starship Troopers. There are three start points for this guy's behavior: he's an animal (and will do this again), he's psychotic (and might do this again), or clinically insane (and might do this again, or kill himself). None of these options allows for a positive outcome.
You say that, but option 3 would cost the taxpayer the least money.
Well, in context, Johnny Rico is reasoning out why capital punishment is acceptable.
A better comparison would be to putting down a rabid animal. They're too dangerous to be among other people, even other prison inmates.
I would say this is most of the reason prison exists tbh
Yeah and I think part of the reason for that is libs like to portray the victim and/or family as seeking revenge so they can call them insecure or other gay rhetorical tactics.
Funnily enough, this is actually an argument for keeping someone imprisoned. It's much more difficult for the victim's next of kin to hunt someone down, when they're surrounded by armed guards in a very secure building.
His low IQ and poor impulse control weren't due to autism.
