I thought it was a gimmick at first ("Based" Mods lel) but I'm really liking that site and its interface. Besides the retro nostalgia it's a very lightweight and no-nonsense menu without lots of distracting elements. Reminds me of some old BBS or Gopher front-end.
I think if they get complaints, they'll remove things too. I'm not sure what the tipping point is.
I guess if I want mods, I have to make them myself, and then keep them to myself.
But I can put instructions out there for others to follow in case they'd want a hand-holding step by step to make said mods. This way there isn't a mod to take down, just instructions.

I've been messing with Lbry/Odysee it seems it would be no problem to put files there. Since it's blockchain based and anyone can host it makes it hard to really cut everything off. I only wish they had a server node that would run on a Linux terminal, I'd gladly give up some of my VM space to host discarded mods. Although I think that based mods is doing similar so maybe I should check it out too.
Also think any such new site needs to also host non-controversial mods. Just to help pull people away from mainstream sites too.
That is the networking effect problem. If your mod is non-controversial wouldn't you want the most people to play it? And in that case you would put it on the subverted "mainstream" site and probably wouldn't bother with a lower traffic site, doubly so it you still believe corporate media that smears anything that isn't under gay commie control as nazi-racist-bigot-White supremacist.
The only people who would bother are the same ones you use other alt-tech already for and for the same reasons.
Obviously we have to start somewhere but doing all that work to only be seen by a few people can be demotivating.

Looks nice, although the interface feels a bit clunky in that I don't think this scales for hundreds/thousands of games & mods.
I wish they used IPFS and/or a distributed hosting model like torrent/LBRY to ensure there are more-or-less uncensorable downloads out there.

Looks like they finally got the "European Phenotypes and Names" mod for Stellaris on their site.
From what I've read, they've already removed mod or two based on political leanings too, just like the other sites.
