I hate this nonsense. That said, there's plenty else to talk about here, I just wanted to call out that journo nonsense.
The US Department of Justice has said the law violates the constitution, groups like the American Civil Liberties Union have questioned it in courts and real estate brokers have argued it could depress sales.
Fuck all these people.
One of Griffin’s most trusted deputies is Peng Zhao, a US citizen who was born in Beijing and is now chief executive officer of Citadel Securities, which generated $2.7 billion in revenue in the first six months of this year.
Zhao, a math prodigy who’s active in Asian-American philanthropic groups, is one of the “key architects” of Citadel Securities, according to its website.
We're a joke of a country, aren't we? Also, you always hear these proud immigrants are active in X-American communities, don't you? But rarely just American communities. They come here, then actively try to favor non-natives. Wonderful. Or, before anyone says I'm speaking too broadly, less native, or more likely to be born out of the country.
Citadel turned to Capital City Consulting, tapping one of the most influential lobbyists in Florida, which has worked with clients including BlackRock Inc. and Citigroup Inc. Co-owner Nicholas Iarossi is also a long-time fundraiser for DeSantis.
Yup, we're a joke country alright.
Iarossi and partners, Maicel Green, a former Olympian, and Christopher Schoonover, worked to secure changes by persuading key legislative figures, including House Speaker Paul Renner and the bill’s Republican sponsor, David Borrero...
They're certainly not working to convince me we're not a joke.
Capital City declined to comment on its work for Citadel.
Of course.
The potential impact of the law was laid bare by an email the wife of a senior partner at Citadel Securities sent to a lawmaker in the state capital of Tallahassee. The couple, both Chinese immigrants now living in Miami, warned of the hate they could encounter.
Oh, great, now it's a fucking hate crime to try to protect Americans.
She recalled a grueling episode of racial prejudice at the Miami International Auto Show in 2022 and pleaded with them not to pursue the full measure.
“This bill will incentivize hate and crime against our daily life, our community, and our children at school,” she said. “Racism and hate crime have already been a problem in the society and this bill will worsen the situation.”
A) Fuck off. B) Who's doing the hate crimes?
While Griffin initially supported DeSantis financially — he donated $5 million to his re-election campaign for governor last year — and said in March “he would love to see” the governor run for president — there are growing signs of tension between the two since DeSantis launched his bid for president.
Only if DeSantis doesn't do what he wants.
“As the presidential campaigns unfold, I am assessing how the policies of each candidate will address the challenges facing our country,” Griffin said in a statement. “I care deeply about individual rights and freedom, economic policies that encourage prosperity and upward mobility...”
Oh, do fuck off.
Song Jian, the founder of brokerage Multi-Choice Realty, is a plaintiff in a federal case trying to overturn the bill. He said it’s causing widespread concern in Florida’s Chinese community.
Almost 99% of his clients are Chinese, and some have decided to leave the state, he said: “They don’t know what direction Florida is going to go.”
Also, you always hear these proud immigrants are active in X-American communities, don't you? But rarely just American communities. They come here, then actively try to favor non-natives.
Isn't it just how conquest works today? Get into a supposedly prosperous land, bring in your people, and get as much of the pie as you can?
There's a lot to unpack there, but honestly people need to push back against the very concept of "hate crimes" even being a legitimate thing in the first place. It's very rapidly approaching something I would consider to be completely normalized even among normie conservatives.
200% agree. I hate any "add-on" crimes on general principle. Let's take a violent "hate crime" for example. Considering this is a hypothetical, let's even go with the lefty wet dream of a big bad Hwite man attacking a black guy, specifically because he just absolutely loathes black people. Alright, I don't care why he did it, attacking people is already a crime, and that's the real issue. I don't care if this hypothetical white man was wearing a freaking SS uniform, the issue is the attack. Not the motivation. Not how much of a wrongthinker he is. Hate crimes aren't real. If a crime has been committed, charge that. Hate crimes are literally thought crimes.
The problem is that the law is deliberately written to be used in spirit instead of letter, and for good reasons at the onset.
For example, the "why gary why" scenario where you just openly cold blooded murder a man in public is a serious offense. But the context and intent make it not just justifiable but almost a good thing, which is why the Dad got basically a slap on the wrist for it. Same with most "crimes of passion."
So they took a loophole designed to lessen sentences for acts committed for understandable reasons and then reversed it to increase them for understandable reasons.
DeStraction is going to be flipping burgers by the decade's end. No fucking way he's getting a Senate seat, at this rate. His political career is DONE.
Well of course he walked it back, because allowing foreigners to buy land is a rule as part of being in the World Trade Organization. It functions at the level of US Federal law currently. Japan found this out a few years ago when they discovered Chinese outposts on land right near all of their military bases.
Leave the WTO, or change federal laws and make the subversives at the WTO pound sand.
Being from Aus, I don't have a horse in this race (I happen to like both Trump and DeSantis for different reasons).
But the title of this post is pure bullshit and the OP is being a disingenuous cunt.
There is nothing "breaking" about this - the laws came into effect back in May.
Nothing was walked back. This was in the original bill signed into law.
It already allowed people from the affected countries (not just China btw) to buy a single residential property if they have a VISA permitting them to work or study in the US, as long as it wasn't within 5 miles of a military base.
The laws still prohibit the sale of property located within 10 miles of military bases and other critical infrastructure – seaports, airports, power plants and water treatment facilities – to anyone with interests tied to the Chinese government or other foreign countries of concern.
The US Department of Justice has said the law violates the constitution
Citadel’s lobbyists persuaded lawmakers to carve out an exception for lawful workers and others, according to people familiar with the process. So in the final version of the law, those with US visas — excluding tourists — are free to purchase a single property in the Miami enclaves, with restrictions only within a 5-mile radius of military bases.
So the whole point of the article, buried waaaaaay down, is that Florida LEGISLATORS have supposedly agreed to some kind of change in the law, supposedly because of lobbyists, but nothing has happened yet.
The law is being challenged in court and there is a good chance it won't survive because of US Supreme Court precedent that national origin discrimination is subject to strict scrutiny. That gives a good reason to look at revisions to make sure the law survives.
I don't buy the argument about lobbyists since foreign nationals from those few countries don't represent a significant percent of buyers.
DeSantis Connection
^ literally the title of the last part of the article, yet it says nothing except that the real estate magnate who the whole article is about DOESN'T REALLY LIKE DESANTIS ANYMORE. LOLOLOLOL
Has a ton more relation to DeSantis than what you posted today, about some Argentinian dude saying some things, that you somehow managed to use to shit talk Trump and praise DeSantis.
Hilarious that you then come in and criticize this, when it's a Florida law that DeSantis backed, and a bunch of the players involved donated to DeSantis, and such.
yet it says nothing except that the real estate magnate who the whole article is about DOESN'T REALLY LIKE DESANTIS ANYMORE. LOLOLOLOL
You just going to ignore the millions of dollar, I guess...?
While Griffin initially supported DeSantis financially — he donated $5 million to his re-election campaign for governor last year — and said in March “he would love to see” the governor run for president — there are growing signs of tension between the two since DeSantis launched his bid for president.
And, considering they don't source any of this shit, the "growing signs of tension" might primarily be this bill right here, and if DeSantis signs off on the new version or wahtever...poof, no more tension.
And what do Trump and DeSantis have to do with Argentinian dude?
Again, the issue isn't even your point on this article, it's that you're literally the last person on the forum who is in a position to make such an argument, at least today. And that's pretty funny, that's all. But, sure, I'm just a dumbass...
Because as we all know, immediately labeling anyone who disagrees with you as some super radical and extreme entity isn't page number one in the handbook of leftist tactics.
Yes, actually, it would, because I get severe second hand embarrassment when you accuse others of acting like leftists when you in that very comment are acting like a deranged leftist. "Retarded," while unoriginal, is a considerable improvement over exposing yourself that badly.
Honestly his supporters are so good at supporting him they are actively making me give him less benefit of the doubt when he fucks up. No Trump necessary to that equation, just their own ranting retardation.
Trump and DeSantis are politicians. I expect them to do that stuff. It's also individualized.
You (and specific others who I won't bother naming) just constantly whine about the miasma of "Maga cultists" to poison the topic for anyone who might be willing to discuss it with you.
Constant reminder: you're stuck here with the rest of us. You're not better than anyone else, you're not smarter than anyone else, you're not more informed or enlightened than anyone else. You aren't fucking special.
Also, if I didn't know better, I'd think you were some sort of 4-d chess shill paid by Trump's campaign to make people unsympathetic to DeSantis. So good job on that.
Destinkis shills are great at that. They truly understand how to make a campaign fail, by being the most miserable, annoying, whiny, superiority-complex-having shitfags possible.
I was into DeZionist before presidential season, but his faggot meat riding supporters really made me reconsider. Then I saw Trump making a comeback, and Vivek Ramaswamy started proving how much better he is than Ronny as well.
His waffling over whether to run or not soured me on him. It's a shame as I thought he had a decent chance of being a prime contender in '28. You only have a limited amount of political capital and I think he squandered it.
I hate this nonsense. That said, there's plenty else to talk about here, I just wanted to call out that journo nonsense.

Again for the people in the back.
expel all chinese nationals.

Here's an article from back in May covering this: https://www.fox13news.com/news/gov-ron-desantis-signs-legislation-banning-chinese-citizens-from-buying-land-in-state
We need some kind of community notes for shit like this.
Ron DeGlobalist
Explain to me why foreigners should be able to buy land in our country at all.

Honestly, the strangest part about all of this is that members of the CCP don't appear to be restricted at all in this law. Just Chinese Nationals.
It's hard to say what's the disinfo here, the claim that it stops the CCP, or the claim that it's being walked back from stopping the CCP?
Literally nothing in this article about DeSantis.

Couldn't have said it better myself!
you're being a dumbass.
the article is about lobbyists trying to get a law changed.
DeSantis has nothing to do with either the legislative process nor the lobbyists.
the headline is an outright lie.
And what do Trump and DeSantis have to do with Argentinian dude?
Again, the issue isn't even your point on this article, it's that you're literally the last person on the forum who is in a position to make such an argument, at least today. And that's pretty funny, that's all. But, sure, I'm just a dumbass...
It's funny how the Maga cultists use leftist attacks.
Because as we all know, immediately labeling anyone who disagrees with you as some super radical and extreme entity isn't page number one in the handbook of leftist tactics.
Well, I can call you all retarded, does that make you feel better?
When the cult is working with dems to attack DeSantis from the left, well, it's pretty obvious.
Maybe the rational trump supporters should come at DeSantis from the right, and not the left.
Yes, actually, it would, because I get severe second hand embarrassment when you accuse others of acting like leftists when you in that very comment are acting like a deranged leftist. "Retarded," while unoriginal, is a considerable improvement over exposing yourself that badly.
If people are going to act like cultists, I'll call them out. Just like the climate cultists, etc.
Don't be a useful idiot. Or an idiot at all.
"this guy said something about changing a law by going to law makers. Must be DeSantis behind it!"
It's like tds, but for DeSantis. Get over yourself. Too many people here are obsessed with riding trump's dick, all so he can lose again.
Destankis, rOn DeSpectrum, Ron Destraction, Ron DeZionist... Your boy ain't touching the white house hahahahaha
Atp Vivek R. Is gonna wipe his ass with Deshittis, let alone Trump.
TDS is a hell of a drug.
I think the thing that bothers me the most about DeSantis is that his supporters are incapable of not calling names.
Honestly his supporters are so good at supporting him they are actively making me give him less benefit of the doubt when he fucks up. No Trump necessary to that equation, just their own ranting retardation.
As you ignore the rest of the topic and trump himself never able to say "DeSantis". It's always some shitty dumbfuck attempt to attack him.
But you're still wrong. I differentiate between the cultists, and the non retards. Try harder.
Trump and DeSantis are politicians. I expect them to do that stuff. It's also individualized.
You (and specific others who I won't bother naming) just constantly whine about the miasma of "Maga cultists" to poison the topic for anyone who might be willing to discuss it with you.

His waffling over whether to run or not soured me on him. It's a shame as I thought he had a decent chance of being a prime contender in '28. You only have a limited amount of political capital and I think he squandered it.
