Tiktok is trash. But when are you also going to ban all the other sites that are also trash and subversive against Americans? This also looks like a trojan horse for the government to take over social media (even more than it already has)

This also looks like a trojan horse for the government to take over...

It always is. More government control is rarely the answer, especially on vague stuff like this. Social media is a plague, but giving the government power over the content we can choose to consume is a terrible idea.

Same goes for ID laws, such as the recent porn-stuff. Porn is bad, and I don't want kids watching it. I also think it's a terrible idea to have sections of the internet where the government can require your identity to access.

It's all a very slippery slope to losing what's left of our free speech. If the government can ban TikTok, can they ban "Nazi" sites, for example? And who decides what is a "Nazi?" If the government can require identification for porn, can they do so for gun sites, for example? And what if they succeed in raising the ages, or something? You're looking at the government blocking adults from viewing gun-related content, in not too many slippery steps.

It's an absolutely terrible idea to give the government even more power over the internet.

Social media is this century's asbestos. We won't realize how damaging it is for decades and in 100 years people will look back and say "what the FUCK were those morons thinking?"

Asbestos was a flame retardant. Social media is a human retardant.

The industrial revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.

I like to think most problems of tyranny and social decay could gradually be solved if we went back to a government described by the Constitution as written. But the people who wrote the Bill of Rights might have a different view of "freedom of the press" if they saw that free speech on social media means everyone in the world - whether they are a success or failure, a child, a retard, a network of thousands of bots run by megacorporations, the spy agency of a nation state, a member of globalist cult, or (gasp) a woman - can all have equal influence on the culture and morals of these United States.

I tend to agree with that but the trouble is there is such a web of entitlements wrapped around enough of the population. And they would never willingly let go of their gubbmint gibs.

It is and isn't. Montana can be very red, but the larger towns have a strong blue streak. So they make something sound red, but it's actually blue.

"We need to stop them from taking our guns by enacting stricter gun laws!"

"Less babies will be killed if we regulate it with doctors!"

Stuff like that.

larger towns have a strong blue streak

Is there any state for which this is not true?
