This is actually kind of genius. They refused to release him from his contract so he is simply going to use social media to share his thoughts, which doesn't violate the noncompete clause in his contract.
They are essentially bankrolling his own Twitter show which will gain far, far more viewers than FOX. I wonder if they'll try to litigate and declare Twitter a 'news venue' even though they don't employ Tucker or pay him.
This is a pretty funky way to fuck over FOX, I'm all for it.
... What? I mean, this certainly sounds like the shady shit networks would do to suppress competition from its own, but this makes no sense.
He's getting paid full price to stay home so that he's stuck with the non-compete. the amount of money they were paying him to be on Fox is considered worth paying just to keep him silent. He's effectively still "employed" with his job being to stay home and do nothing.
He wasn't fired. They just pulled him off the air. As of right now, it seems like they want to keep paying him his full salary while the bench him so that he can't go to one of their competitors.
I'm reasonably certain that this deal does in fact break the non-compete.
He's giving up roughly 40 million in Fox pay to do this. I am certain Elon is paying him, though.
This will be the making of New Twitter.
He was born into wealth, has made a lot of money in his own right in his time, and married into even more wealth. He doesn't need money and has said that he does his show as a form of political activism, and not for the money.
How rich do you have to be to say pass to 40 millions? Even rich people don't have cache like that.
On what grounds would a non-compete be broken?
If he isn't getting paid by Twitter, which is a social media site legally, technically he can share his own opinions about events.
If Twitter puts him under a paid contract that would be a different story, FOX might be able to claim breach of contract.
Tucker's new show is going to be directly on Twitter.
That’ll be wonderful if it works out.
I'm going to be really surprised if Twitter is still allowed to function at its current level by election time.
The one thing the left absolutely will not tolerate is losing control of the ability to indoctrinate/set the narrative. They simply can't afford that. Their entire system is built on that. Without it, it collapses, because normal people don't want what the left wants, until they've been conditioned to think they do, and that they'll be ostracized from society if they don't.
Immediately after Musk purchased it, you saw a little bit of them trying to tear it down. Going after advertisers, trying to get Apple/Google to pull the app from the store. Anyone remember how Musk had to go publicize a personal meeting he had with Apple/Tim Cook, saying that they had come to an agreement?
Now that Twitter is more and more becoming the place to challenge the leftist stanglehold on the narrative, they are going to go so hard at bringing it down, and replace it with something else. There is going to be a massive campaign to mark them as being full of misinformation, racism, sexism, trying to help "Russia" sway the election, etc. They are going to run their usual gameplay, and go after advertisers, ISPs, and then go back to Apple/Google again.
It's going to be absolutely berserk soon, leading up to the election. When Trump won the first time, and all those companies released shit talking about how they couldn't ever let it (Not Trump winning - even though that's what they said - but anyone not on the left winning), they meant it. They've completely gone off the rails, and they're going to do what the left always does - double down.
Edit: LOL. Just as I expected, they are already starting with that exact narrative. I just saw this MSNBC clip on Mark Dice's channel. You hear that, guise? Twitter is just the absolute worst, and no one wants to be part of that right-wing site, and probably wants to start going to someplace else.
God, these people are so predictable. Watch the clip. It's incredible how easy it was to predict it almost word for word.
This works REALLY well with Elon wanting to turn Twitter into a Western version of that Chinese social media site that's like a combination of twitter, YouTube and with other functions.
If people are slowly ingrained into watching longer form content on twitter than just short 1-3 minute clips, it'll be an important barrier removed to becoming a competitor to YouTube.
Glad to see that Tucker Carlson is back and with a larger audience!
I guess I'll give it a shot. Never watched Tucker except bits and pieces when my boomer mom had it on.
I was kind of hoping he'd land on a platform that had a lean back/watch from the couch app (either GoogleTV or Apple TV). I hate having to watch long form shows on my laptop.
Elon said they're working on boomer-friendly TV apps for Twitter livestreaming.
just plug your laptop into your tv or use one of those tv browser app things
This works for us but not for the most important target of Tucker's kind of news, old people who are incapable of watching TV in a way that's more complicated than 2-3 button presses on a remote.
We're so back bros
They think they're very clever to misinform people without telling what they judge as a lie. Right thinking people detest this sort of slick tongue.
