They do a lot of pandering. I don't know if it's even a political position, but that movie that said "titillate grandpa and piss grandma off" isn't wrong. A lot of it is just sensationalism without much endgame.
That was how it worked when Roger was alive. Yes they wanted to push the Overton window back towards Right/Neocon thought, but they cared about ratings above all else. Since the Murdochs took over direct management they've been very political behind the scenes, even shedding viewers when necessary.
I wouldn't get too excited over this, Tucker hired a pretty well known attorney to handle his divorce from the FOX contract, this guy has enough connections to plant stories to push public interest.
What you are seeing here is just posturing so they revoke the non-compete clause. He'll keep planting stories like this in the right wing media and they are hoping that between the loss in viewers and public outcry FOX caves to make it stop and remove the non compete.
No. The situation is that Fox is holding Tucker to his contract & paying him $20 million to block him from doing anything else, while taking him off the air.
Tucker should absolutely go scorched earth on Fox. Including openly breaking his contract and daring Fox to do something about it. Fox can't stop him. The only thing they could do is stop paying him.
I don't know how NY goes. In California, they can't keep you from doing your job. If your job is TV host, they can't keep you from working as a TV host for someone else. I mean IANAL, but that's how it works for computer programmers.
Noncompete would typically say you can't solicit their employees or customers, whatever that means in the case of a TV host. That guy wouldn't be selling advertisements. He would be barred from recruiting former colleagues to go work at new place.
You're talking about a non compete clause, and that is true. However, he hasn't been fired. He's off the air, but they're still paying him. It's a "you've been placed on leave with full pay" like a cop who just shot someone.
So Tucker needs to break the contract and say "fuck your money".
That's where the forced arbitration comes in. It allows the more powerful party to rig the game. They get to choose the arbitrators and there's no rules to the proceedings or any judicial review of the decision. Forced arbitration is usually intended to stave off class action lawsuits or lawsuits from lawyers working on contingency, but it would thwart a crowd sourced legal team as well. This of course assumes that forced arbitration is in Tucker's contract. There's a good chance that it is but I don't think that's it's an airtight assumption.
You can thank the Feds and the Federal Arbitration Act for that. It is such a lopsided law in favor of arbitration and there's nothing anyone can do about it except for negotiate out arbitration clauses if you're able to.
It has its upsides in theory, but in practice it's a fucking nightmare. They need to either abolish it entirely or put serious guardrails on the whole process.
Hmm... Was this all just a staged defection? The way they did all the time, back during the cold war. Is Tucker going to keep being a tv face, or is he preparing to start his political career. Is he being assisted/instructed with this? Damned red pills... I fucking overdosed on them. Why must I be sceptical of everything and not just go along with anything anymore?
Fox News deserves to be torched for firing him.
Ironically, I think Fox News did a great job of proving that it is centrist, not right wing.
I guess they didn't realize that would mean being hated by everyone.
I'm not even sure if I'd call them centrist.
They're controlled opposition.
Fox News vs. CNN/MSNBC/ABC is nothing more than Megamind vs. Metro Man theatrics.
Agreed. Leftism at the speed limit is not centrist.
I think Fox News as a whole is (or rather, was, pre firing Tucker) slightly right of center.
It really depends on who's on, but I'd say they're pretty much a bit left of center overall now.

If only they were centerist.
I've heard this song and dance before. I'll cheer for it if he actually delivers, but until then this "oooo he might do it!" is gay and worthless.

lol, good one

The only penalty for breaking a non disparagement clause is a fine I’d assume
