A year can make the difference, I wouldn't be surprised if this China trying both carrot and stick by upping military presence to everything but an active invasion while supporting as much as possible pro China politicians as I have my doubts on how accurate the poll is.

Taiwan is not the Ukraine. Taiwan is nearly 100% Han. Everyone speaks Mandarin. There's no hick underclass to fool into dying in a hopeless forever war.
They have a plenty of Taiwanese natives from before 1949 who more recently underwent cultural revival (their culture was brutally suppressed during the KMT dictatorship). It's them who don't consider themselves any "China" at all, and they've also been under the Japanese occupation/colonization and obviously influence for a long time (1895-1945).

Taiwanese generally do not vote based on China. It's a small issue for them.
If it becomes a bigger issue, it's because China does dumb shit to stir shit up.
Every time China has done that, the result has been a backlash against China, usually meaning that the DDP gets more votes and the KMT less.
