Fun fact: there are more forests in Europe than there were 100 years ago, simple due to the switch to coal power.

Deforestation, like Nitrogen fertilizer runoff, is not a major problem anymore.

I don't think that is how it works, Finland and Sweden already plant more trees than they harvest, and as long as you replenish the stock you seem to be ok.

I am all for keeping old growth forests, but there is no point in trying to re-wild and regrow forests that are already essentially monoculture farms of trees, primarily pine and fir as that place has already been destroyed.

Drive any direction in Sweden or Finland for 2 hours and you will find perfect rows of pine and fir trees as part of what is essentially a wood plantation.

This is the same EU that decided private jets should be exempt from carbon rules.

Rules for thee but not for me.

Got a link for this? I know the EU are just unelected globalists but not being able to sell coffee, wood and paper in EU is impossible.

The woodnone doesn't even make sense, because wood for lumber is farmed and doesn't cause permanent deforestation.

"Bans sale of lumber due to deforestation"

What are they building structures out of?

Interesting to know the population will not grow at all anymore, since new or additional houses are not allowed.

I'm in support of this as it will help us crush rising economies in the developing world by rendering their natural resources economically useless.

The more nations we keep in poverty, the richer we will be.

So long as we have borders, that is.

FUD as always from this clown.

Banned unless origin can be traced. Knowing where your food comes from is a good thing.

So they're not really banning anything, just creating scarcity and driving up prices.

And probably taking regulatory bribes for producers to get on the nice list.

Incentivizing local production. For better or for worse, EU is a very protectionist economy.

I just find it funny that cocoa trees are blamed for deforestation ( yes I know cocoa plantations aren't as dense / rich ecosystems as primary forests ).

As someone who deals with wood, EU pretty much had this rule in place since 2010 iirc. It's called the EU timber regulations or EUTR for short. tldr, you must be able to prove that the wood you use for your stuff like furniture, planks etc , come from legal sources/forests.
