They think we take him literally on those things, while failing to understand that we know that Trump is just boasting. Meanwhile, the time when he's telling the truth is the most important and significant times to be telling the unvarnished truth that everyone knows is the case and nobody wants to politically admit to. Like when he told the news media that there was a huge number of people in DC that wanted a war.

My god, the chaos at that last airbase was unbelievable. They had helicopters sweeping the tarmac with their rotor blades, in front of the people there, in order to clear the crowds off the tarmac, so that planes would take off. Hundreds of people were killed in a suicide bomb attack at the base entrance; that also killed an entire Marine squad. We abandoned over $81 billion in military equipment in what amounted to a route. Dozens of people fell to their death falling from departing aircraft who were hanging on the outside. Over 65,000 Americans were left in the country BEHIND ENEMY LINES and had to be negotiated out.
Not only was the Afghan retreat chaotic, it may have been one of the single greatest American military disasters of all time.
