What? Shows tailor made for "hatewatching" don't cultivate a real audience and have no real financial success? How could this be? Next you'll tell me that twerking over a corpse while covered in blood doesn't make someone a likeable character!
I think this is a different show completely that got canned.
They've tanked the IP's reputation so badly there's no way a preschool version of the show would fly.
Yep, that was the main goal. Scooby Doo was a staple of American culture, as recognizable to an 80 year old as an 18 year old. And now it's dead, probably forever. Another aspect of western culture destroyed, to be replaced with Lizzo telling you to get an abortion.
Is there any long running western franchise not tainted to the point of apathy anymore?

I've made my peace, there's no way to stop Hollywood faggots from acting like faggots. I just refuse to give any money or attention to the "modern audience" remakes that wear a franchise like a skin suit.

Bet they were wishing they could blame this on the merger too like they did those other shitshows that got lost due to murky licensing rights.
They already had a second season of Velma produced and ready for release before the first aired, so it was always going to happen. It remains to be seen if it continues after that, but this is an indication that HBO doesn't think Scooby Doo as a franchise is profitable, which amounts to an admission that Velma is a failure.
What is it going to take for executives to realize that they're actively killing off their fifty year old franchises that literally print money? I know that "The Message" is being pushed by active saboteurs, but surely there are some old-fashioned execs in it for the money who can put two and two together.
...Then again, considering the intelligence and critical thinking skills of your average executive....
Finally, something worse than Scrappy Doo that I can point to when people ask what happened to the show.
