That changed when video games decided to market their games, overwhelmingly, to boys, like they did in the arcade days. ‘90s fighting games like Mortal Kombat helped acclimate an audience to seeing attractive but untouchable women in their underwear.

Fashion can be defined and redefined again. Outside of video games, in 2023, skirts are again becoming appropriate for non-female identifying people to wear. Stylish women themselves are considering what it means to dress for the “female gaze,” or in stereotypically feminine clothing—like colorful glitter eyeliner, laced corsets, pink skirts—prioritizing art and romance over sexuality.
Though the Resident Evil 4 remake’s outfit change bows out of the discussion rather than embraces the skirt as a more fluid, expressive device than the past 20 years of games have allowed for, I can empathize that elbowing out of the boy’s club is difficult.
But I do think that video game fashion will change as long as the real world does, too. It’s been a long time since video games were marketed just to men. Now, we’re all looking. Respectfully.
Things that aren’t happening at all… one quick look through your local tinder will show that not only are women not “dressing for romance” the only ones who are mostly covered are morbidly obese. This neopuritan crying is why no one respects female opinions.
The irony is modern women, specifically more attractive ones tend to dress closer to the likes of old school Lara Croft. Every time I go out shopping, I constantly see women wearing revealing or skin tight form fitting clothes leaving little to the imagination.
I didn't even know "skorts" were a thing until this remake, I mostly just see women wearing yoga pants, tight jeans, or booty shorts.
Be fair, a woman with the collection of opinions overtly expressed in that article, and all the ones we can reasonably assume she must also hold based on it, is probably obese, or hangs out in “spaces” mostly occupied by obese girls.

I’ve long suspected that gender-fluid, non-binary, etc is just another pendulum swing in fashion (i.e. clothing and accessories, not wider trends) but since it’s being worn by a generation of over-schooled but under-learned critical theorists, it can’t just be “our clothes are less traditional,” it has to be “we’re heroes who are disrupting old assumptions about gender!!!” which from there all but forced them to take the next step, “I’m not just dressed in a neutral way, I’m like LITERALLY gender neutral deep down in my soul (that I don’t believe in because ew, religion)!”

It's part of the mass renaming of things that has to occur to erase existing culture and replace it with their own.
