Long documentary
A friend made this about the dangers of megacorporations. I'll watch it later, but thought it would be cool to see a few comments on it. Sorry, no TLDR.

Themed Experiences
Universal Theme parks just changed its name. They are leaning more toward Experiences than Rides now. The latest park is Super Mario World, which is very interactive but has few rides. The same could be said about Harry Potter areas. Then the new experience at Universal Studios Florida is called Villain Con and it appears to be entirely Experience and interaction base.
An article on the name change.
Twitter users complain about font usage and placement instead of what it all means.
The term is referring to the Experience Economy, which gets passed around like a Doobie at theme park fart sniffing associations. It basically says people will pay more for an experience than an actual product. Also, people are happy when they experience things than if they do nothing. Marriages last longer based on the mutual experiences the couple has gone through. The book is old, and was expected to be right 4 years ago.

These people are the epitome of evil. They want humanity to be forever enslaved to the powers already in power. The frontiers are the only place freedom can exist, and they want to extinguish that.
Also, Imps favorite sci fi author is on the list: Ursula K. Le Guin
The idea of colonizing space is neat to think about but as it is, I'm skeptical the freedom traditionally seen on the frontiers of civilization will be there this time around.
The level of technology required to colonize space would probably grant various corporate and state entities enough surveillance capability to do away with that freedom. That's assuming the tech levels needed to get us there don't put the human race into the pods first, of course.
Elon Musk is going to turn into Andrew Ryan IN SPAAACCE. He'll talk a good game and promise an open and free society for settlers, but the invisible hand of the market will be chained to SpaceX. He'll literally own the air you breathe.
I can't wait.
I think the regime will ensure that it has very firm control over the 'frontiers'. The worst thing I can think of is humanity colonizing other places in its current situation. Like America has elements of Tudor and Jacobean England, it might be a simulacrum with elements of wokeness frozen in time.
I appreciate these posts. I’ll look at that documentary when I get a chance.
As a life long wrestling fan I guess you could gamble on how many 2 counts or how many times someone kicks out of a finisher. Or if someone is busted open.
Not sure why people on the right are so gung-ho on wasting their time and money to go to an office.
I agree, but is it a left-right issue? Most CEOs that want their employees in the office are politically-ignorant default liberals.
The entire economy based on those offices is being lost, aling with any reason to have large companies. If we can work on multiple projects at home, all of the previous set up are gone.
I've said it before but this is the true and only danger of AI. Not the machines themselves but ignorant people anthropomorphizing or deifying them. Unfortunately this psychology affects people on all sides of the political spectrum and is based on a combination of belief and conditioning from science-fiction. It's like a self-fulfilling prophecy. You'll also have midwit engineers like that Google guy who keeps doing interviews claiming computer programs are thinking and on the cusp of self-awareness. OpenAI CEO said "AGI is coming". If an AGI system is released I doubt it would come from OpenAI, and wouldn't be very useful if it did.
The real kicker that finally convinces people outside the lab will be when sexbots become lifelike companions that can believably ape human emotion. It probably won't happen in our lifetimes but our children's. Detroit Become Human is mostly unintentional comedy, but somewhat realistic if you view the story through the lens that the human supporters of "robot rights" are evil misanthropes and dumbass shitlibs jumping on the latest activist bandwagon.
Damn, might have to break out Fallout 2 again some time.
The SD3 article sounds super biased sadly. Topic and copyright is interesting but it's only talking about the negatives, especially mentioning controlnet in their article. Also: I need to dust of fallout 2. I am surprised it doesn't use Ai here btw, that's quite the big project then!
I just assumed they used AI voice. That is impressive.
Regarding Star Wars, here's what he has to say:
Us, as in the group that kept Star Wars in pop culture for the 20 years between Return of the Jedi and the prequels? People that bought 20 years worth of books, video games, and toys for what would otherwise be a dead franchise?
Yes, there's certainly no money to be had in giving that group what they've been clamoring for since the DVD was invented. You'll never make back the money you spend on cleaning up archival films and releasing a 4K Blu-ray box set.
Maybe, just maybe, blowing off this group of fans and producing the trash that you have been for the past few years is why the popularity of Star Wars is at an all time low.
Great post! I like opening the links that interest me in new tabs and going through them later.
Thank you.
I think I'll keep using Winamp 5.541..
Room temperature in this case is 21c (70f). The problem is trust in the team that did the study.
RPG Games are better with text than voice. Much cheaper, and offers more options to chose from. If everything were to be voiced out of the gate, you get good/evil endings and dialogue wheels. I don't mind if it's voiced afterwards, by modders or DLC or whatever.
Sapient AI would be persons, yes. The problem is verifying they are. Even just sentient AI wouldn't get human rights, as they're akin to our pets, which don't have those rights.
The powers that be really don't want a Stellar Diaspora it seems. Pre-empting it by tagging and smearing it through their usual empty buzzwords. "environment, indigenous populations, and cultural identity.". There are some valid concerns the first two, but they're blown out of proportion. We desperately need to colonize space. Not just to ensure mankind's survival, but for the freedom it brings, and what the technology it requires presupposes. Like, most likely unlimited energy, unlimited matter, common place 3D printing and fabrication, breaking the light barrier, nano/femtotech repair (of everything, from body to technology).
I've read the Vattu Web-comic from Story-Bundle. It was okay.
Would a sapient AI even care about what we would assume it should? It can't touch things, so it has no idea what velvet feels like. It has no body, so clothes are a human thing. Sort of like when Data was first being made, he walked around naked because he had no reason not to.
Space is dangerous and has a lot of difficulty. It also has some great potential being stymied by politics on earth. I like that term Stellar Diaspora.
I don't think it's a new term. I've heard things that describe the same phenomenon before. It'd also include a whole lot of 'management'
And yeah, everyone that has seen one of the 'a day in the life of a [whatevertechcompany]-videos knew that these people didn't produce anything of value for their company.
Working off-site is one thing, working from home is another. It leads to isolation and destroys the mindset. Further drifting humanity apart, it will lead to the breakdown of society. It's not just about controlling people, we need to work together in close proximity or we start to mentally break down.
I think a hybrid-concept could work with the right mindset. I wouldn't want to work exclusively from home either. My commute is only 10 minutes without any danger of traffic jams though.
But if we could make it so 40% of time now spend in offices (commuting and all) can be done remotely I think it could have useful knock-on-effects.
I mean, the technology is here, at last.
