It's a double edged sword as if you have the state/government mandating what should and shouldn't be viewed by who, it'll start here on an issue that people think is reasonable.

It's something that parents should be on top of with all the parental controls and options available.

Rightwingers cheering these laws on, are basically cheering for the end of the Anonymous internet and for Wokesheviks in corporations & government to know the names & addresses of people who post "wrong-think" on social media.

No, I am not some lolbert that thinks you can do absolutely nothing about young kids seeing porn on the internet, there is less intrusive government solutions, such as requiring the modern software equilvent of a v-chip in any computer, smart phone, smart TV, etc.

That sounds more intrusive and a yield to government power to me. The state laws requiring an ID would be enforced by states, while anything requiring special chips by hardware manufacturers would have to be a federal government mandate with a new regulatory framework. Unless you're talking about some image-detection AI chip then they would also have to monitor and enforce the distributed content to make sure everything put online complies with the law by including accurate ratings metadata in the files or website tags.

I'm only critiquing the specific v-chip analogy you used, not dismissing the idea of regulation of porn in general, nor saying I'd prefer them require an ID.

States can do it too, America is a federalist country. Also I said "software equilvent of a v-chip " like an app or program that parents can go into and have it read a device's web browser(s) to exclude porn websites & pornographic cotent.

Yes, the EU controls the US. You are a brilliant geopolitical analyst.

He likes it if it means men can get their rocks off without being involved with real women.

He hates it if the women in or around porn benefit in any way.

I hate women making money off it, but recognize it's better than being enslaved by your desires for some fucking sadist

But then you should absolute love porn bans.

They won't be able to ban porn off the internet. The only thing bans are going to do is to make sure producers and actors don't benefit from it financially. Bans would destroy the commercial aspect. Porn itself would just further go the way music and movie piracy have gone.

I wonder what the result of that would be. Ad-supported sites would certainly take a hit because people who don't pay won't want to hand over private information for nothing (they can just go to foreign free sites).

As for subscription services it could go either way. People already have to hand over their CC data anyway, so that wouldn't change anthing. If the government tries to get their grubby hands on that data it could deter people from subscribing, though.

BTW here in Germany we already have an official-ID requirement for porn sites (anything 18+ really). Of course that only affects German sites and requirements were so strict and unrealistic that they AFAIK either shut down or moved to other EU countries. Some tried to fight in court but eventually lost because nothing they did to verify age was ever good enough.
