It's a weird take as I saw Arch's video on it then saw the Templin's video on it later on
Arch rightly called out how they were trying to use the 'unreliable narrator' as an excuse for why female space marines could exist when outside of the actual lore, that's because GW couldn't reign in their writers.
Then there's the MASSIVE elephant in the room, if you have female space marines, what the fuck is the point of the Sisters of Battle. They are immensely powerful, way cooler than any 'female space marine' and just as badass as the actual space marines. This is another one of those cases where they want to add something without taking into consideration how much this hurts already established groups in this universe.
How come Sisters of Battle are considered that strong?
I choose to believe they're powered up by the psychic simp'ery of a few trillion thirsty imperial guardsmen.
Because their faith in the Emperor is so strong it allows them to perform literal miracles, and even caused one of their members to become so powerful she is now for all intents and purposes a Daemon fueled by devotion to the Emperor rather than devotion to Chaos.
So it is less a case of "We used extreme biological science to create ascended men who are so ascended it is arguable they arent even human anymore" and more "I believe that I can stop these bullets, and my faith is so strong I literally manifest a force field that stops the bullet".
Replace "my faith" with gork/mork/randomzappything and you've basically got orks with tits.
Now, now, the SoB are more than orks with tits. They're orks with tits and ludicrous amounts of flamethrowers.
'Brother! I can only get so hard!' :Salamanders
I heard the theory that essentially they have the Emperor on their side so they get 'miracles' like with the OG sister of Battle Alicia Dominica when a shield turned mysteriously off so that she could decapitate a certain heretic...
Basically they get a extremely lucky thanks to their faith in the Emperor, the debate is who is luckier, them or Ultramarines.
The Ultramarines have Matt Ward so of course they get all the luck
The power of their faith.
Orks are strong because of their collective psychic power being channeled into a Waagh. Sisters are strong because a few, highly devoted sisters literally believe that Emps is god and therefore can grant small miracles. Living Saints are theorised as being Greater Demons of Emps from the Warp.
It's why I love the sisters so much. They are biologically enhanced humans but not Astartes so to make up the power gap, the power of their faith lets them essentially cheat on the battlefield.
This is why you drop the official canon and start weaving your own. We had to do this for warhammer fantasy. We rewrote the end times, then created an entirely new Age of Ruin that erases age of sigmar from ever having existed.
I would like to subscribe to your newsletter. Warhammer Fantasy is one of my favorite settings.
It definitely kicks ass. My second favourite setting after Exalted.
Thanks. I want to support Cavill’s show so I need to do a 40k crash course
If you want to get up to speed, I'd of course recommend Arch but I got two other worthy ones:
Adeptus Ridiculous is an unofficial W40k podcast where they have Youtuber Bricky explain and go through the history of each group and fraction in 40k to a newbie so a good starting point if you're new.
Luetin09 does great breakdowns of W40k too
Those two I know not from 40k but when they were Warframe and Battlefield YouTubers respectively. It's like when you get burnt-out thanks to game companies, you enter the grim dark universe lol.
If you want some straight lore channels, I've got two suggestions for you;
Baldemort's Guide to Warhammer 40k
and
ABorder Prince
You could argue that alot of their lore stuff is ripped straight from the wikis and/or books, but, eh. Don't care. They're both creative formats with excellent voice work. Plus, ABorder Prince does book readings of Warhammer 40K stuff. (Not going to lie - I fucking love the readings he does of some of the Fabius Bile short stories.) Good stuff.
Thank you!!!
I'm not familiar with the lore but someone mentioned in another thread how they added some woman that was stronger then the emperor and that was somehow responsible for the creation of the Astartes despite the pre-establish lore specifically stating that the emperor created them.
So I can see GW shitting on the canon when ever they feel like pushing more woke crap.
They would have been referring to Erda, introduced to the lore in 2020 via black library as the woman with whom the emperor created the Primarchs.
An unnecessary lore addition as he surely didn't need a woman to achieve his goals, especially considering the artificial wombs used by the Death Korps of Krieg.
However, she was never 'stronger than the emperor', and also, she betrayed him, and she is dead - though not by his hand.
I still have no idea what the flying fuck GW was thinking with Erda.
They introduce an oh-so-important female character completely out of the blue, with no prep-work or hint, who was intimately involved in one of the most founding and critical events of the setting in what screams to be absolute pandering to the soy crowd...
...and then promptly have her be responsible for cataclysmically fucking up by giving the Primarch's over to chaos in an attempt to... not have them raised by the Emperor for... reasons. With the end result basically being 'Local woman ruins everything, forever.'
What the fuck. It's so schizo I can only fathom this entire clusterfuck was the result of several different writers/producers going at it in a sort of unholy, twisted cold war of creative effort.
This is common across the woke world. It's pandering, but they don't really believe in it. The real SJWs mixed into creative and influential positions are a minority but they have power because the rest of the midwit liberals go along with it. The liberals are tools who call you a bigot if you speak up, but then in their actual work they consciously or unconsciously half-ass the virtue signaling and try to put out legitimate products without their harpy coworkers noticing.
She doesn't even exist in my Canon lol
She is dead? That is odd, not very woke of them. Who knows maybe GW will not go down the woke path just yet
There are definitely cracks beginning to show, as these days, you can't pick up a squad of human miniatures without seeing a token negro on the box.
I think they are hedging their bets and laying the groundwork they'll need in case they have to go woke.
Yeah, Erda is dead now, but if femshittery wins the culture war to the point that female led shit actually sells, now they have a new Goddess-Empress to bring to the forefront on another golden throne hidden in the warp itself.
On the other hand, one of the most recent major additions to the lore is Ursala Creed, who is Ursarkar Creed's daughter. Much like her father, she has become the Lord-Castellan of Cadia (even if that is an honorary title now), she is an extremely skilled commander of the Guard, and is still a skilled fighter even if that is not where her skills are best used.
"That sounds like they just gender-flipped Creed" I can already hear the retorts. Except no. She feels like she didnt really deserve the role and thinks that other commanders would do the job better (said commanders dont agree, which is why they dont take her place), she has made mistakes that Creed would have seen through and she knows it, she is constantly self-conscious of the fact that she will be compared to her father and how big of a weight that carries, and she is constantly grappling with the fact that she knows he is still alive and no one believes her (because Trazyn decided to do Trazyn things and left her proof of him still being alive).
At a very basic level, it may just be gender-flipped Creed. But it manages to do it in a way that actually feels compelling instead of forced or "woke", and infinitely better than any Mary Sue depiction.
So to that end, at least for the moment, I will continue to contend that GW's greatest sin continues to be merely greed. Sad about Templin taking this route though, because I love their stuff. I probably wont stop watching their channel, but it is definitely going to leave a bad taste in my mouth going forward.
Death of canon then? Let’s go there then: Tranny version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, all non-binary Charlie’s Angels, and all female and gay Supernatural. No more half ass’n this shit. Go for what the women and trannies like that push this shit.
Sounds like it got the SA Corey treatment.
