Sounds very similar to comments Penn Gillette has made, since that quote is almost spot on to what he said about not minding people trying to convert him.

So he's the literal 'false idol' of Catholicism. Unless there is a method to, for lack of better words, 'dethrone' the current pope, I'd say to most Catholics switch to protestantism or make it so you refuse to recognise the Vatican in a similar fashion!

The title is biased. I'm by no means a fan of this anti-pope, but he said to evangelize and not to proselyte. He's trying to say that you shouldn't be obnoxious about it, which is fair enough.
I mean, he's not wrong. You can't convince someone they're wrong about their opinions. It's like thinking someone will calm down if you tell them to "calm down". I can't convince people that cutting out sugar and seed oils is good for them by telling them about the health benefits. But when I show off where I was and where I am now, they gets them thinking.
