The most common difference is a psychopath is crazy, while a sociopath is cold. One is unable to function in normal society, while the other is able to succeed easily because they lack empathy.
The "cause" part has no bearing on them, because you can pick easy examples of either for both "born this way" and "made this way."
Based on what I read about him he seemed to do okay socially in his grad program. Not necessarily charming but he doesn't seem like the typical socially inept incel. It sounds like the FBI agent is either lying or cherry picking evidence as FBI agents are wont to do. If the guy was an actual incel they would have found it in his internet history as blasted it on every MSM site. The fact that it didn't go down this way is telling.
Practically everyone who met him described him as a creepy weirdo. That's true of a lot of autistic-spectrum type people though (Michael Burry of The Big Short said he had no friends in college, for example).
