The absolute sanitization of the internet has been a slow drip process, but it really ramped up at around 2015. (media.communities.win)

I was there, I remember. Watched slashdot get completely taken over by gay commies. Was there when FARK banned "misogyny". When Penny arcade groveled to the fat feminists over a really mild joke where a mention of rape was a part of the setup.

The iphone let women get on the internet without having to deal with an icky and "complicated" desktop computer and that was the mortal wound. From there the bleed out was inevitable as every "mainstream" site fell over itself purging anything that women complained about.

I remember how comic books devolved from any interesting mix of genres and story into an amorphic blob of virtue signaling and now its mainly just older 'collectors' chasing after key issues of a bygone era.

no, normies ruined the internet when the first [easy to use] smart phone, the iphone was released in 2007. Previously, the internet wasnt the domain of normies, and it horrified them because users were rude, it was wild and scary, and you had to be somewhat aware of what you were doing.

The thing is, how do you explain the non-normie nerds that were fine 20 years ago having turned into massive SJWs?

Those non-normie are probably trying to score some pussy.

How do you explain mods being soyboys and trannies even on niche websites that normies don't give a fuck about?

Leftism has to infect everything.

In the UK the average man never had the vote until millions of them died in WW1.

Women got the vote in the exact same election cycle- after doing fuck all.

File under 'How did women get the vote?'

There were several bombings and quite a few arsons involved.

They should have gotten the rope instead of the vote, but the hunter-gatherer instincts were too strong.

Haha, I still read Slashdot sometimes. It's like the same like 15 autistic commentors who reeeee over everything.

I used to have some really good conversations on there.

My final comment on Slashdot was on an article that was yet another screed bitching about how bad men in (tech/gaming/whatever. I forget) were, and how the (male) author was trying to fix it for women.

I posted a sarcastic response excoriating all of the "toxic" men in my midst (many of whom were defending the article) as not understanding the plight of these poor, helpless women. Unlike myself, the One True Man, who would be the savior of womankind.

Then I started reddit on r/atheism right before elevator gate. Got introduced to the Men's Rights subreddit that I browed through looking for laughs, and instead found that they actually had a point and that the edgy atheists mocking them were just morons.

I had forgotten this, but my experience was very similar. There was one poster on Slashdot who I found kept making reasonable points. He also posted something about this "gamergate" thing which I had never heard of, or only vaguely had any clue what it was.

I followed him to Reddit, discovered KiA, some men's rights subreddits, red pill (which I never bought into that much, but I found some respectable ideals and people), etc.

This must have been late 2016 or 2017.

I just looked up that guy on slashdot. He hasn't posted since 2020 and most of his last comments were modded to 0.

Interesting, why were the edgy atheists mocking MRA? I mean, besides the obvious fact that they are lefties. I just wouldn't expect that interaction.

Because the idea that men had any issues in society was so unthinkable to them (and me, at the time, given I'd received the same brainwashing that they had) that it was hilarious to even suggest that there should be any sort of advocacy for men at all.

Yeah, you’re right.

Pretty much none of this shit would have happened without smartphones, and especially the “made for dummies” IPhone…

But also social media. Pre-Facebook (in particular), and also Twitter, there just… We just didn’t even hear this sort of shit, out loud, most of the time…

Leftists would argue that it is somehow a “good” thing that “marginalized voices are being heard”. But this is, of course, the perhaps inevitable end result of that, lol…
