I don't like having to defend this stupid movie, but I'm going to say this: running around everywhere nearly naked, wearing animal skins, and using bows as your primary weapon is not a culture that's distinct to you or anyone else. Its a sign that your civilization was primitive and never advanced beyond the Oogah-Boogah stage.
purportedly stealing themes, history, and imagery from Native American and Indigenous culture
Okay, which ones? The Comanches? The Sioux? The Shoshoni? These people have "so much respect" for a group of people they homogenize down to skin color. Of course, they would require them to acknowledge that the people they built up as "peace-loving and in tune with nature" actually went to war with each other for land and resources and killed entire herds of bison for a few pounds of meat because they didn't understand anything about animal husbandry.
I'm all for erasure of Native American references from absolutely everything at this point. It's what the activists want; let them have it. It won't go the way they expected.
Gotcha. I’m a Cowboys fan but I still call them the Redskins. I remember they did a poll where the vast majority of Native Americans didn’t care about the name

It's like someone drew a face on a toe
Lmfao
Yeah, I know.
Translation: a handful of 20-something university students, likely with greater than 50% white ancestry.
Yah once they stole my teams name. The rest of the tengential Native American stuff was next on the chopping block.

Who was your team?
Must've been a Redskins fan, the poor man

I'm blue, da ba dee da ba di Da ba dee da ba di, da ba dee da ba di
Sorry couldn't help it
My family's been here since the 1670s so as a "native" I approve of boycotting this olde rich dude's three hour virtue signal.
Probably not what they're looking for, though.

Let them fight.
It seems to be happening anyway.
"Give me money or I eat you all!!!"
They should boycott this movie because it sucks and not up to the standards of classic Cameron.
But there are a ton of sci-fi stories about interacting with natives of different planets. Or look at military sci-fi.
