I work in a place with almost all men. My wife works in a place with almost all women.
When I go to work, we talk about the job, getting things done, keep conversations short and factual, and share information for the purpose of succeeding at the job site. Then we go home.
At my wife's work, coworker #1 is plotting against #3 in league with #2 and forming a clique with #4 and says such mean things about #5 and makes #6 feel unwelcome while #7 is actually with #8 and #9 and are gunning for a promotion by getting close to the boss. Then she goes home.
Having worked as the only male in an all-female workplace, it really is petty wars and micro-crimes and passive-aggression and multiple wars of attrition, and in an all-male one, it literally is all about productivity and results.
Very much depends on the working environment and women in question. I worked with a fair number of women of different ages and background in blue collar work, and it was only a handful of late-comer higher ups who were insufferable.
If I had to guess, based on those experiences, I'd likely have found myself encountering far more insufferable sorts like those individuals I mentioned in a more white collar environment.
Basically, women who are willing to work hard in the trenches alongside men of similar rank may prove to be quite reasonable, but when you have a job where there's serious opportunity to slack off and/or order other lower workers around, you're more likely to encounter individual women (and sometimes men honestly) who just don't give the slightest fuck about doing their jobs. Not when they can piss around, pass the buck onto someone else, and make their lives hell instead.
I've started to realize that women really don't know how to interact with men at work.
Basically, because we treat them like men, they see that as cruelty. We treat them as men so we don't really take thier feelings into account, and occasionally joke with them with a bit of crass humor. Then they act cruel and rude, so men get pissed off because they are being treated like garbage, and women then take that as a form of bigotry against women.
It's like:
Tom: "Sarah, do not re-arrange widgets in the Rockwell Encabulator. I don't want to have to bring this up again."
Sarah: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to!" :(
Jacob: "Yikes, you might have fucked the dog on that one."
Sarah: : (
Jacob: "Listen, sorry, Sarah. I'm just joking around. We'll do better next time!
Sarah: :' (
... weeks later ...
Sarah: thinking: I now know how to act like one of the boys. My training is complete.
Sarah: "Hey Tom, stop being a fucking retard and put the widgets in the correct order."
Tom: >: (
Sarah: "What? Don't be a little bitch about it."
Jacob: "Uhhh. Sarah, is everything alright?"
Sarah: "Mind your business shithead. Tom's just being a little bitch and making everyone's life worse with his presence."
Like, men and women can work perfectly well together to get stuff done, but not so much when the natural flow of communication and reasonable thought have been so totally disrupted and sabotaged.
