It got worse over time. By the 80's and 90's there were still some areas that did legitimate research, but by the early 2000's it was all just trash. Just look at the different response to swine flu compared to covid. It was literally a trial run.

Even if they don't want them, their brain will fix that for them in a panic once age sets in. The man is a means to an end, which requires little investment in him. Most don't even put in the thought of "my baby will be half these genes" they just have the baby.
Their desire for men however is mostly external. If they didn't need a man's support, whether its physical, sexual, or material, they would be very unlikely to feel much for us. Especially any of us below the 12/10 mega hot level.
