AI-Generated Games Are Starting To Appear On Steam (And It's Not Going Well)
Most PC players seemed to reject the puzzle game, but the developers aren't deterred

Not having to make art from the ground up

That's a nice way of saying you stole art, CGI images, pics, and movies from other people for your merger engine to create a more sophisticated cut and paste piece of shit.

LMAO, AI can generate better art than any of these retarded twitter "artists". Fuck them.

But that's the thing, AI isn't generating shit. It's merging pictures.

If your art was made by an AI, it isnt your art. Legally it may be, but really it isnt, everyone spiritually/instinctively understands this, and you arent an artist for negotiating the AI keywords. And while endless AI generated content will no doubt one day be attractive to the Consoom generations, the last thing the gaming industry needs now is more paint-by-numbers, made-by-algorithm filler crap.

AI-created games will be much better than human created games in surprisingly short order.

The perfect game is one where you get an exact dopamine hit where the average consumer is willing to pay maximal additional money to get another dopamine hit. A pay2win or pay2progress system that makes people incredibly engaged while playing it, but ultimately incredibly meaningless.

That is, objectively, the "perfect" game, for corporations to create. A wire going directly into the pleasure center of the brain, that shoots a chemical electrical straight into the skull.

But that's not what "gamers" want. Gamers complained when Fire Emblem didn't have Lunatic difficulties. Gamers cried when Aerith died. Gamers beat SC2 without losing a single unit.

Gamers want stories. Whether that story is an emergent story grown from their own gameplay, or a story told to them through the game, gamers want a tale they can tell to other gamers. Pay2Winners just want a dopamine hit, like drug addicts. One of these is much more profitable than the other, and easier to create. And that's the one the AIs will make.

Gamers are outvoted by idiots.

Maybe. There’s definitely a sweet spot where devs will have the like ideal game loop mapped out, but the problem with “ai” is that the stats will lead everyone to the same place and ultimately the same game. If someone sticks with it they could eventually model out what players would find appealing immediately following that sort of singularity period, but I feel like the market would just naturally reject the like ai genre or whatever we want to call it before we reach that point. “Human” designed would become the selling point.

I'm not so down on a game using AI-generated assets, but the way they've used it sounds bad. I'd either use it as an invisible step in the pipeline - like the algorithms used to generate 3D meshes from 2D images - or lean into the idea by using AI-generated remixes to populate a dreamscape.

AI art/music is an excellent way to create a baseline, something you use as a placeholder that gives you a very "realistic" idea of what the end product will be like, while you're going through creating the product, since those elements are usually left for last. Then you're not encountering Missingnos when you're compile-testing play environments.

I would not mind if a game is using AI to generate some art, like portraits of characters in a RPG. Same would probably apply to ability / equipment icon art.

I'm thinking RPGs like NWN, BG, Shadowrun, Might & Magic, Avernum, ...
So games where the interface art is different from the "ingame" art (the 2nd I don't see being AI generated).
The same probably would apply to music (I think) or general sound effects. Gameplay elements on the other hand...

Maybe even background art for adventure games. I saw this example
