Mascots ignoring black children seems to be the new fetish (archive.ph)

Breaking news, attention hungry nobody mistakes costume's eyeballs for actual functioning eyes. Claims daughter looked into the cold, plastic eyes of hatred as she was tragically left hanging.

I can see Vanity Fair or the Root with that exact headline

I can’t believe this story has gained traction. Any media outlets giving this money grubbing mother attention should be ashamed. When I went to Disney world when I was 7 I didn’t get the attention of all the characters I wanted to meet. Life goes on!!!

I’ve had to work as a mascot before it’s easy to miss someone. Media needs to stop giving these grifters attention

And I’d love to ask anyone outraged by this why this gets more attention than kids gunned down in inner cities.

I hear it's like 120 degrees in the costume and you get sexually harassed by soccer moms in that line of work. Was that your experience?

I was 16 and while there were hot moms none ever tried anything with me. The suit wasn’t so bad. It was either that or washing dishes

Normal parent when their kid doesn't get a hug:

"It's ok -- they're very busy, they can't hug everybody. Maybe they just didn't see you."

Professional Victim when their kid doesn't get a hug:

"That character you love hates you because you're black!"

These people are awful.

People have been brainwashed into believing that anything that they don't like is the result of 'racism'. Not that it requires much brainwashing. Telling people they can blame all their failures on something and get their way all the time will be appealing, even if it's not going to do you any good in the long run. Sort of like heroin.

Yeah but black people specifically. White people and other minorities don't blame all their problems on "muh waysizm."

When you capitalize 'black', I know that you're not being an impartial narrator and that you ought to be ignored.

Listen...

Mascot costumes use a black screen to block the performer's face from being seen. It's like wearing dark sunglasses, or having tinted windows on your car and driving at night.

So, it makes a LOT of sense why black kids appear invisible to these mascots. It's bad enough seeing kids at all, given the restriction on peripheral vision in those suits, but couple that with the dark screen and dark skin, and it's bound to happen.

Now it's just being grifted for gibs. Fucking bullshit.

LOL, these people haven't figured out that the mascot eyes aren't actual eyes.

I think in this case, they might be.

It looks like he would have been staring straight at her if he was looking through the mouth, but if he also has a view through the eyes or something else higher up, he might have simply been staring through the wrong hole to see at her at that moment.

I've never worn one of these suits, but I've been given the opportunity to try on the head, and in my experience (but of course, depending on the suit) you'd have a better field of vision looking through a fucking periscope.

The most blisteringly obvious explanation is that these mascots just sort of make happy gestures at whatever they can see, which isn't much. Instead, these grifty idiots are either pretending not to know, or are too stupid to know, that putting on a mascot suit doesn't give you a T-800 computer-assisted targeting system.

Two most likely scenarios:

A: The guy wearing a giant mouse head that severely limits his hearing and vision can't see the kid. It looks like he should be able to see her through the mouth, but if he can also see through the eyes (and his interactions with the kids on stage suggest he can) he was likely not paying attention to the view through the mouth, which was the only way he would have been able to see her.

B: Call me cynical but I wouldn't be surprised if his boss has literally trained him to avoid black kids when possible because they're more likely to damage the expensive costume.

So an attention hungry mom is upset (or pretending to be upset) that her little 2 year old daughter might have been missed by a person in a costume that reduces vision, might be quite hot and tired from being in it.

Do we have something above first world problems as I feel it can't even count as that.

Just watch, this will signal the end of any sort of character interactions out side of a 'santas village' sort of queue setup where they can give every single special snowflake the same amount of fake attention if they wait patiently enough. Of course the kids will miss out then since the line will be a massive wait because of twenty somethings who'd get ignored in the first scenario..

Demanding that blacks make sense is literal white supremacy.
