They seem so lazy, only thing that gets any attention are spinoffs and remakes.
They are making woke shit anyway, why not at least try new content, the odds of being good increases when they do not blackwash or gender swap characters.
Hey, I've been out of the loop on sci-fi literature for awhile and I'm looking to dive back in. Can you tell me roughly what year Hugo and the rest of them jumped the shark in terms of wokeness? I'd like to use them as a guide for past years, but I want to know when I can safely ignore their opinion on things.
Also, do you have any other resources you would recommend for finding new, good stories and books?
Besides the culture war, having a pre existing successful IP minimizes the risk the the investors. Since a portion of the public is already familiar with the IP, it saves on marketing as it gets free attention and the public is gonna be curious to see how it turned out. The (((money men))) of Hollywood have been taking less and less risks since the turn of the century (even more so after the mortgage crisis).
That's why I believe allowing corporations to "own" and control creative IP the way they do, for excessively long periods of time, is a net cultural negative and gives corporations unearned influence and power in society. It's one of the reasons they can afford to take less risks.
Work must be scarce right now, especially with the wokeness being spread by people like Peter Dinklage about having “stereotypical” dwarf roles is some kind of -ist or -phobia 🤷♂️
Right? That's so sad. They don't realise that members of their community are walling others out of work.
Same with the metoo movement. Anyone who thinks that was about women's right to being treated better professionally is a moron. It was about older actresses who knew they got into the industry through sexual favours, removing the possibility for younger ones to do the same.
Dinklage is doing the same. Serious dwarf roles are good. Wanting to have those roles is good, he can do that, it's his right to choose what sort of a typecasting niche he wants for himself.
But he is removing the possible roles of other people like him who maybe... want to be creatures and funny people and such.
It's not demeaning for Doug Jones to be known as a creature actor, but it would be a HUGE nono for a person Dinklage's size to be known for the same kind of a specialization. Funny, huh?

This never, ever gets brought up enough - partly because it goes against the narrative ofc - despite it being as easy as checking IMDB to see the connections between the loudest voices attached to the movement and Miramax/Weinstein.
Yet complaining about groups "pulling up the ladder after them" seems to be all the rage these days yet because it generates the correct type of outrage the media can fuel and focus at the right kind of mindless drone it gets a pass. As do aforementioned loud voices because it's all they have going for them now they hit the wall.
I think most members of their community do realize that, it's just that anyone at or near the top of the ladder has to pretend otherwise to keep getting work. Nobody else gets a voice.
The original film wasn't bad, it was a George Lucas produced film at the height of his powers and had Lord of the Rings/Game of Thrones vibes decades before they came on the scene as films. I'm not super into fantasy stuff, but a lot of people who are love that film.
I did not even know they were making a Willow remake, how original of them to make another remake
Unfortunately it’s coming to Disney+

Because it isn't about making stuff for them, it is about them taking stuff away from you.
They know they can’t create anything good. Look at the sci stories that win the Hugo awards

My rule of thumb is 2014 and prior is generally safe. Baen books is a good resource for good sci fi
Awesome, thanks man. I'll check it out.

I completely agree. Doubly so if corporation had nothing to do with the creation of an IP. Copyright lasts far, far too long.
They really take laziness to another level in this, Shad caught that they have modern arrows in this.
How much work would it take to make some modern arrows look old? Like three minutes?
Warwick Davis is spinning in his grave. Yes I know he's not dead.
He’s in it
I know that's the best part. He's spitting on his own legacy. The man he once was would shoot who he is now right in the head.

I don't even care, tbh. Whenever I see a remake announced, I assume it will be terrible and ignore it.
It does make me want to rewatch Willow though...
Thats is a good channel when they dint have that fat chick on.
Well, I've never heard of this franchise before but the trailer looks stupid as fuck so I'm gonna skip it.

If this was by another company, I would be interested as I am a fan of the original.
With Disney though, it will probably be just another woke show with an extremely unoriginal and boring plot.
