I gotta say, the last couple years have really decimated my interest in a lot of these people and their projects.
I used to be so much more into things like Star Wars, James Bond, Batman, etc.
Now I practically don't go to the movies anymore. Dune (and that new Jackass movie I got dragged to) was the only movie I actually went to see in theaters for the last few years.
Director of Dune is signed on for Rendezvous with Rama.
Hope it gets made and is good, was a favorite book.
There's a movie that's been in development hell since forever. Had it on my IMDB watchlist for about a decade now.
Covid lunacy really finished off a lot of such things for me. Movies and TV were already on their last leg anyway. I used to go watch movies and buy movies all the time not even 10 years ago. Now, well I might collect a blu-ray of an old classic from time to time and usually not purchased new. To me they died off because the content sucked before I even attached it to wokeness.
Avengers: Endgame was the last western movie I saw in theaters. The only other thing I've seen in theaters since then was Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel part 3, as I have no grudge with Japanese stuff
this. saw endgame, the silver screen is dead.
for most movies, i wait til others see them and most people that have even partially trustable opinions are just complaining that 90% of movies are shit. i'm just not interested in paying for someone to lecture me with mental gymnastics about how i'm supposedly racist/sexist and not admitting it makes me double nazi.
and today, a disney exec just said that in response to florida's anti-pedophilia law, they're going to be ramping up the LGBT storylines in all of their properties, especially children's movies. disney properties were already on their last leg. these companies can die in a fire.
shit, i think endgame was the last one i went to as well.
The last movie I saw in theaters I think was the first Hobbit movie. Now I just wait until the home release and watch it on whatever service I want.
None of these people are relevant to anyone under 30.
Video killed the radio star, but streaming and podcasts have killed the movie star. A movie is on your screen for a few hours per year.
A streamer is on your screen every day, possibly for more hours in a single day than than a movie star will be on your screen that year. And they talk, or at least appear to talk, directly to you, their viewer.
We're entering a world where movies debut online and are watched at home with little to no investment from from the viewer. The days of 'it needs a face I recognize or I can't be bothered to see it' are over. All but the most talented or unique performers are eventually going to become completely interchangeable and replaceable, because nobody cares about the actor any more.
And the faces are easily replaceable with CGI anyway.
There's a reason voice acting has become suddenly respectable, and it goes beyond "Robin Williams did it."
CA Pedes help me out. Does Hollywood know they are in decline worldwide and are just living their last days up while they still can? Or do they honestly sense that nothing is wrong?
Big "shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic" energy because it's how they make money and they will squeeze every dime they can out of the market until they physically can't anymore.
It's a very bloated thing. It's been this way for ages, and it's been declared dead several times. Every person in the area thinks theor career isn't safe, and then does what they can to survive. In a way they're right, the previous guys get pushed out by the new kids who can do spiffy stuff like stream their movie. Spielberg was called a brat for making the blockbuster instead of something like the godfather.
Will Hollywood last? They always find a way to trick or riggle their way into the new thing and pretend they always liked it. But, we don't need those studios for videogames. I think a lot of the "cinematic presentation" shown in the 00's was that attempt at riggle. We can see those videogame companies going through similar problems as Hollywood.
Most of the low level guys like cameramen, and wire pullers don't care, they have union jobs. The movie doesn't matter, just doing your job does. Most of them seem to be staying.
So no, they have no idea.
they thought they could just take over youtube
then rumble and ticktok popped up
If there was to be one man in Hollywood who was going to be not just sane but self-aware, Kurt was a good choice.
Anthony Hopkins is also surprisingly apolitical.
