I never played bioshock but considering it’s Netflix I’m sure it will suck

I've played it a long time ago and I admit I do not remember the story.

That being said, as far as I know it was suppose to be anti-capitalist and the third one (that I've not played despite owning it) is something about racism. Some woke talking points can naturally fit in the story just as long as the woke ideology does not become the story.

But since is Netflix it will hammer their talking points with every chance they can.

I noticed you indeed "don't remember the story".

You battle communists (of various sorts: hypocritically criminal, collectivist utopian, and "largely peaceful racial justice protester") in each installment.

This is an incredibly bad interpretation of Bioshock. Probably the only person who has ever implied that Bioshock's enemies are communists.

Why? They're being called "anarchists" by the Columbians in Infinite but they consistently use red for everything rather than black.

Or maybe you're trying to say "they just try to kill the hero, and the hero kills them by hundreds, but this doesn't mean they're enemies"?

the third one did indeed have some commentary on 1920s racism

it also had the "downtrodden underdogs" get the upper hand and then turn into a perhaps even worse version of their former overlords (basically the oppressed became the oppressors - does that sound familiar?)

Notice that the Comstock sect refers to the real America of this "1920s racism" and everything else as just "the Sodom Below".

They also don't identify as Americans after they left America (seceded and flew away), back in 1901 or so.

They also now have a "prophecy" to one day return and literally destroy America (the fate of Sodom).

It's an apocalyptic cult, not America. And they're not even Christian.

That was going to be even more developed in the precut version.

I have heard that about the game as well but yea Netflix and writing good stories generally don’t mix. Also at this point I think people are tired with the “racism discussion” narrative

Oh boy, can't wait for them to make the Big Daddies jokes and have Brigid Tenenbaum to actually be the sole mastermind behind all of Rapture and Andrew Ryan and Frank Fontaine were actually jealous of her and that's why it turned to shit. Oh, and she's now a black American who outsmarted the bumbling, yet super duper evil KKK because I'm an American screenwriter and my brain is mush.

I honestly do not know what to make of it. Game adaptations are bad in general and this one is made by netflix, but BioShock is exactly the type of setting some woke and anti-capitalists would love, I doubt they can help themselves to make it anti-male and anti-whites but who knows.

It can be good?

Huh? You fight literal communist bandits (the gang of "Atlas"), and later even Anarchists Of Color (AOC) too.

By setting them on fire and making crow flocks eat them alive.

I really do not remember the story ,I've played the game a long time ago and I remember fractions of it. This is a bit strange because I tend to focus a lot on the story aspect of games but I feel I played BioShock just cause of the hype. However I thought it was suppose to be a critique to capitalism or something. Was I wrong?

First game: Ryan was truly an idealist who selflessly wanted to create a peaceful and happy objectivist society, and actually he did succeed. He was only corrupted by being forced to counter the actions of a criminal mastermind posing as "the people's hero", abandoning his principles and becoming ruthless and cruel, and this is what led to the downfall of him and Rapture. He's a tragic figure, while his enemy "Atlas" is just evil:

On September 12, 1958, Fontaine was apparently killed in a shootout with Ryan's men. His death was faked, allowing Fontaine to escape punishment for his crimes, and giving Ryan and Rapture false hope that their enemy was dead. Fontaine reemerged as "Atlas", proletariat hero. Atlas charmed the masses pretending to be a humble freedom fighter, handing out supplies to the poor and telling the disillusioned what they wanted to hear.

Do you have to try to be this retarded? The entire game is shitting on the American Founding Fathers, Christianity, and Whites generally.

It's a crazy bunch of non-Christians (never ever mentioning or showing Jesus, worshipping Father Comstock and Lady Comstock instead) who have seceded from America and now want America destroyed.

The protag is an actual (white) American who is constantly bewildered by these absolute weirdos while trying to save a white woman, and later also trying to defeat a black woman and her simarly over-the-top bunch of bloodthirsty psychopaths.

(Actually, I can easily imagine Antifa types dressing like that for real. Fantasy realism!)

I didn't play the DLC.

What "much different story"? A gun control raid on a silly cult resulted in a rifle being fired in a scuffle, and then a bunch of retards opened fire with Hotchkiss automatic cannons on everyone including their own soldiers (many/most losses from friendly fire), then they systematically murdered women and children with revolvers and sabres, and posed with often naked bodies like hunters with their game. Much much much worse than Waco. 20 Medals of Honor awarded, dispensed like candies. You mean this story?

BioShock is exactly the type of setting ripe for an N-Word subversion.

I loved Bioshock Infinite. I'm not watching anything produced by Netflix, though.

At the very least, I won't pay for it.

Conceptually it’s a bad idea. Bioshock’s narrative power comes from the fact that it is a game, with player input and decisions. The entire plot twist centers around this, and the dealings with the Little Sisters are only narratively powerful because it is YOU who is deciding. It is a master class in video games as a narrative device. A movie adaptation strips out that soul, and leaves behind only the husk of the setting. You can’t have the meaningful decision making of different plasmids, of sparing Little Sisters or farming them for Adam, or even of choosing to kill the enemies. At that point just make a Bioshock inspired dieselpunk show, because all of the important innards of Bioshock are gone. Or just play Infinite, since it’s just as soulless and basically a movie anyways.

One of the very few video games that could make a good movie. They will ruin it though, as while I'd say it tends to lean right wing it's one of those settings that could very easily be spun the other way as simply as them adding a few of their "white supremacist patriot" stereotypes to the bad guys and say that's how it is.

Time for big daddies to be one shot while little sisters are the real threat.
