Those two statements usually don't go together. Did Remington actually make a statement admitting responsibility? The vast majority of times a company settles, they explicitly reject any liability in the original claim.
If they admitted responsibility they would just open the door for thousands of future lawsuits, the settlement almost surely did not include an admission of guilt.
I don't remember all the details, saw some youtube thing about it years ago but for some reason McD serves their coffee extra hot and I still remember getting sandpaper tongue from drinking it before it cooled down during the 90s I get it. Anyways, she had to get skin grafts. She got a lawyer to try to get McD to pay for her medical expenses and they said "no, take us to trial" and the jury said "hey hey, fuck you." so instead for a few thousand dollars (under 50k?) it became over half a mill after punitive damages.
When does the media?
First thing I was thinking

But it did show that any gun manufacturer can be shaken down if the event is horrific enough.
A very dangerous precedent. Couldn’t obese people sue food companies?
Lol, the pharma lawsuits alone would make every company destitute
I think Burger King was sued for that but it was thrown out. I do know a lady won a lawsuit against McDonalds when she spilled hot coffee.
She got third-degree burns, it was that hot. It was then turned by mass media into farce but she was basically maimed (her crotch area, no less).
Ok. I remember that’s when they had the warning that the coffee was hot.

They will if we let them.
the settlement means nothing.
the company went through bankruptcy in 2020 unrelated to this, the claims here are part of the re-org, and the settlement will never be paid.
the settlement is solely to get the case to go away and stop wasting time on it because they were never going to have to pay the bill.
Hard to see where the money to pay the settlement will come from. The company's assets were sold off in 2020.
Hopefully these families are peacefully liberated of their earnings by youths.
I keep my guns locked in a safe so that they don’t go crazy shooting people in my house. We all know how crazy guns can get.
so they paid them $100 to fuck off
They should have taken it to court and used the exemption from liability the law provides….
