I used to live in the Bay Area for a while so I can emphatically say that she perfectly describes the sheer isolation and ostracization you will feel when you are not a far leftist.
I know a family moving there in the spring. The dad got a job at a Palo Alto based startup (that is doomed to fail by my own analysis). They're pretty lefty, can't say I really like them all that much but our kids are friends.
I think they are completely crazy and don't know what they are in for.
prudent for the RNC to pick someone with less baggage and more moderate appeal
Whoever that person is, they will quickly be viewed as Trump 2.0 by the same people who refuse to vote for Trump. The media will create baggage out of thin air.
The Republican voters who dislike Trump are turned off by his personality. I think there's still opportunity for someone with a lot of the same policy positions (populist, anti-immigration, anti-war) but hopefully more consistent and without as much egotistic bloviating. I do not think there is much voter appetite for a Neocon candidate, though there's still a lot of money that supports that worldview.
"I am in a world of highly educated ppl. These are friends with 2-3 degrees each from Stanford, Harvard, Yale."
This says it all. SF has been a shithole for years. The surrounding enclaves (Palo Alto, Cupertino, etc). of the mega rich all share the same politics.
There are still a few conservatives and one or two reasonable leftists in San Jose, but they're either transient students or living in the ghetto or are past retirement age and/or living in their nice homes bought before 1980.
People with a lot of degrees crave feeling like a member of a club that's smarter than everyone else. It's not even principled leftism; it's globbing on to what they believe are appropriate beliefs for an elite. You also see this in them concentrating in the same places: "This is where someone like me ought to live; the rest of the country is a backwater."
People with high IQs and fewer degrees are frustrated that they ARE smarter than everyone else. They don't want to be concentrated in a big city because being around lots of people annoys them.
Arguing with my relatives they brought up how California gets screwed over by the electoral system because their votes "don't count" since they're not a swing state.
I said if they were more open-minded they'd be a swing state and their votes would count, so their vote not counting is due to them not wanting it to count.
It was like a smacked them with a 2"x4".... but, but, but liberals are so open-minded by definition they said! So where's the diversity of opinion, if they all think the same way how can they be open minded?
They think open-minded means you looked at everything, reassured yourself with confirmation bias that other beliefs are actually terrible just like you thought, so now the more sure of your beliefs you are the more open-minded you are - the complete opposite of actually being open-minded.
You can't have a camp of raw festering evil on your border; eventually, they will try to reconquer lost territory. The only way to be safe is to dominate them completely. Never stop stomping on progressives.
It will NEVER be allowed to happen. The powers that be will start another civil war before they allow the US to split and the right can't win that when NATO and UN will just reenforce the leftists.
Progressive, urban, Jew. She'll act like she's starting to understand what's going on, but only because the pendulum has begun its reversal.
100%. Probably just trying to weasel her way into the rights good graces in case they win.

Seattle is identical to what she describes in the Bay Area, except our weather is so much more shitteous.
man growing up in SoCal I never knew that Bay Area weather was something to envy.

Like, maybe here. In the real world? Dude's as popular among Republicans as Eisenhower was. He's actually more popular than Reagan among Republicans.

So basically George Bush him and split the ticket so the dems win again instead of letting Trump win?
A stunning read. Shocking to see this kind of self-introspection from a true lifelong left-winger.
Maybe the tide actually is turning. Unfortunately, probably not as fast as the population replacement.

Good. The pinkos can leave. I'm not giving ground, and I'd rather Liberate California.
Failing to see what I was saying. They will kill US off with the help of the UN and NATO. South Africa 2.0.
