Whoever that person is, they will quickly be viewed as Trump 2.0 by the same people who refuse to vote for Trump. The media will create baggage out of thin air.
The Republican voters who dislike Trump are turned off by his personality. I think there's still opportunity for someone with a lot of the same policy positions (populist, anti-immigration, anti-war) but hopefully more consistent and without as much egotistic bloviating. I do not think there is much voter appetite for a Neocon candidate, though there's still a lot of money that supports that worldview.
