The left is fucking hilarious. Every little thing online has to be meticulously policed: Misgendered someone? Ruin his life! Made a joke? Ruin his life! Dared to question a woman? Ruin his life! Have the wrong opinion? Ruin his life!
But shit that leads to first responders having to wear bullet proof vests is totally fine. That's just future doctors and engineers expressing themselves on their way to college.

I talked with my dad about it (retired firefighter, so he has contacts and sources), and he says it isnt actually new, they have just had to step it up. But they have been having to wear vest for years now. Same with a lot of major cities. Another one I know of (because there was a family story involving it) is that in Atlanta they have a cage over the parking lot of where they keep the trucks. Because even keeping them locked up in the building is no guarantee they wont get stolen or broken into. Yes, you heard that right, there are gang bangers trying to steal fire trucks because "reasons beyond your comprehension as a sane person."
I read that as 'Poland' and was shocked.
Then I realized it's 'Portland' and realized it's business as usual.

It's unfortunately becoming common here in Germany, too: migrants from certain regions of the world do not like when "authorities" come into "their" areas.
Even paramedics aren't safe and police escorts for paramedics aren't something that raises eyebrows in today's Germany anymore.

Better idea: stop answering calls in areas you need vests to go into and let the problem sort itself out. One prayer to Earth-mother Gaia outta have rain comin' to quench those flames right?
