I'm worried about this for obvious reasons, but I'll be damned if the trailer, and the director's breakdown of said trailer, don't make me a bit optimistic. The fact that the director is Reitman's son is also a good sign. Again, I'm worried because I know how Hollyweird likes to shit up old franchises, but I'm cautiously optimistic. Anyone else have hopes or concerns?

Well one good thing is that it is pissing off the shills who attacked everyone that didn’t like the 2016 version. My annoyance with that was that no exec said “hey guys wouldn’t it make more sense to do part three or a passing of the torch? Nobody is asking for a female reboot”.
I've noticed that as well. The focus on family and finding your history seems to annoying all the right people as well. I've also seen a few dipshits get mad that the main character (Egon's granddaughter?) seems to actually be an outcast and a geek rather than a trendy "nerd", gamergirl-type.
I want to have hope for this movie but in the current era I’m so cynical.
I'm right there with you my dude. 10 year old me is super excited. Modern me is cynical and worried. Guess we'll see.
This is the only correct 'middle-ground' take. Don't give them any money whatsoever until you've seen it yourself, and have even less than 0 expectations.
The amount of copium in this thread is depressing- it's like they haven't been burned enough times to learn their lesson yet.
No high level exec said it, but Akroyd and Ramis had been asking for that for years.
Has Akroyd said anything about the reboot?
When you say "reboot" do you mean the 2016 movie or the one being discussed here? (which looks like a proper sequel)
If you mean 2016, he had a cameo and financial interest and wouldn't attack it too much, but he was very clear in interviews that he was not pleased with the direction Paul Feig took it and how it was managed. (on the other hand he said "it was a great movie" and "those girls were superb!") He's excited about the new movie which he's also involved with.
Yes I meant the 2016 version.
I remember when my dad saw the commercial for 2016 reboot he had a major confused lol on his face and asked who in the world was clamoring for this.
All they had to do was not crap on fans who didn’t like it. Or better yet dont make pointless reboots.
“Better than the 2016 dumpster fire” is the best I can hope for.
That’s an easy bar to reach.
You'd think, but people keep missing it.
I’ve been disappointed too many times.
I'm so sorry 4 everyone who didn't grow up with decent cinema.
I'm 50 now, and haven't gone to the theaters since Doctor Strange (IMAX, was cool), and have zero intention on ever returning.
You guys have had 2 settle for absolute shite propaganda disguised as entertainment.
Not going to bother even googling the trailer. There is no need. All big budget western media made after Avatar: The Last Airbender, is poison.
On top of that, I am convinced that the only reason The Last Airbender slipped through the cracks is because there are no white people in it.
Even the CCP produces better media than hollywood now.
Do you have a year you generally don’t cross? I’ve reached the point where I stay away from stuff after 2014. Only two exceptions are Yellowstone and Better Call Saul
"Generally" I don't cross 1999. Of course, there are good things made well into the 2000's, but they make smaller and smaller percentage of each year's collective output.
The only post 2014 movie I've enjoyed is Zootopia, and that's because while its surface-level story is a typical lefty wet dream, the more attention you pay to the worldbuilding, the more hopelessly detached from reality that lefty wet dream is. I don't know if this is intentional on the part of someone in deep cover in the writer's room, or if my enjoyment of the movie is fully ironic.
I can understand. What is funny now that I’m 40 is that shows my parents or grandparents would watch that I thought were corny like the Walton’s, little house on the prairie, or Leave It to Beaver are shows I watch a lot now. So nice to see a show where the traditional family isn’t denigrated.
Zootopia is only half lefty wet dream. After all, Judy's whole story is learning not to judge a group of people by the actions of their ancestors. That's a lesson feminists and BLM could use.
2014 seems accurate. 2 years for preparing propaganda for the 2016 elections.
The bitch in Better Call Saul hates white people. She said as much on her social media.
Which one? Saul’s girlfriend? Man that sucks!
Kim Wexler. I used to follow her on social media and all she did was bitch about how white people suck and have had their time and niggers should kill them.
Geez. She is so stunning and brave. Attacking white people in a western country.
And of course she did nothing herself, not step down to let a nigger take a job or kill herself, like she said whites should die
They never do.
I was going to say Black Panther was incredibly based if you actually paid attention to it but no, no you might be on to something here.
and the morons on Twitter are angry. Making a movie that fans of an IP want = evil. Making a movie nobody asked for that bombs = stunning and brave.
Well I'd be lying if I said the twitteratis resentment isn't a driving force behind my excitement for this film
Same here. In a sane world this movie doing well would send a huge message
My thoughts are that I don't care to give movie studies any of my money even if they make one film out of a hundred that isn't woke trash.
This is the first I have heard about it. And I doubt I would watch it. If I happen to end up watching it, i wouldnt have paid for it.
I'm worried becuase this is starring kids. The original worked because it was four schlubby blue collar guys in the hero roles.
But it's the original director's son making it, so that gives me some hope.
I'll wait and see for now. There does at least seem to be some reverence for the original property, which is more than we normally get nowadays.
Is it by Sony?
It doesn't have to be better than the 80s GBs. It just has to be better than 2016s SNL skit film dressed as a reboot
Instead we should all look forward to how this movies success will be considered problematic because reasons
I'm cautiously optimistic
I don't know....it's not that it looks bad it's more so that it looks...bland. Or I guess derivative is the better word. It just looks like its cashing in on Stranger Things and IT by making that type of film again. Where it's a group of outcast kids fighting a paranormal force...I've seen that a lot lately. Like I said, didn't look bad, but it almost looked like it was taking itself too seriously. It's fucking Ghostbusters? Where's the humor?
Again, I'm not ragging on it and anything is better than that 2016 version...but yeah, I wasn't overly wowed by it either. It was just that feeling "oh its that type of movie...again."
