What about black people whose ancestors emigrated after slavery was abolished?
Should the white ancestors who lost relatives in the Civil War on the Union side also be compensated? How much institutional wealth was lost by those family members dying early?

Christian ethics also compelled European slave owners to treat their slaves somewhat humanely. (Obviously there were exceptions.)
