Happy Christmas to Thomas Sowell. If I could I would name an University after him, he deserves it and it would make leftists cry.
Ever notice that the genuinely smart people tend to be Republicans or strongly right leaning?
I wouldn't say they're republican but I will say they're not democrat.
Republicucks are worse than dems. They allow progressives to pretend they don't have complete control of the government.
Definitely a not all hot tubs are Jacuzzis but all Jacuzzis are hot tubs situation. I am pretty right leaning and kinda dumb but there are no smart leftists.
there are leftists who think they are smart, and whose ego is tied to the public perception of them being intelligent

In fairness, he's a great listen when it comes to evolution.
He didn't seem to learn a damn thing from his ousting from Evergreen though. He's just painful to listen to on any other topic.
You're thinking of his brother Brett
Newton was C of E, Plank was a Lutheran, Pauli was a Catholic deist. "Right leaning" I don't know, but they're the heroes of physics outside of the pantheistic Einstein.
lol if you think the purpose of public school is education
True. That is naive of me.
Smart enough to push the buttons, but not smart enough to question why they're pushing it.
“We want one class of persons to have a liberal education, and we want another class of persons, a very much larger class of necessity in every society, to forgo the privilege of a liberal education and fit themselves to perform specific difficult manual tasks.” -- Woodrow Wilson
Not really. I was skeptical of him because I knew he was a conservative, but then I decided to read some of his books I found in the bargain bin, and was instantly hooked. While I did not always agree, I always found him very interesting.
Relatedly, all of yall should look up Rand Paul's recent speech in Congress over the Covid relief bill. He can be so incredibly based when he wants to be.
I actually did learn this in high school because I took economics.
Really? When did you graduate? I graduated in 99 but they didn’t touch on economics much.
I mean, when it comes to basic needs, yes and no.
There is enough food to feed everyone - millions of tons of it goes to waste every year.
There is also enough shelter for everyone - millions of acres of habitable floorspace sits completely unoccupied all year round.
The problem is that you can't distribute this to literally everyone without exploiting huge numbers of people with laughable or non-existant pay, awful working conditions, or some other issue.
We are closing in on the light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to these basics, however - fully automated driverless transport and delivery WILL be here sooner or later. We absolutely WILL be able to ensure the basic needs of everyone without making anyone's life hell quite soon.
"Post-scarcity" is centuries away for most things, but when it comes to food and shelter, it is now within striking distance.
Yea we are a ways away from the Star Trek replicator. We should always look for ways to help those in need but also we need to teach our kids that the world owes us nothing.
