I mean, when it comes to basic needs, yes and no.
There is enough food to feed everyone - millions of tons of it goes to waste every year.
There is also enough shelter for everyone - millions of acres of habitable floorspace sits completely unoccupied all year round.
The problem is that you can't distribute this to literally everyone without exploiting huge numbers of people with laughable or non-existant pay, awful working conditions, or some other issue.
We are closing in on the light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to these basics, however - fully automated driverless transport and delivery WILL be here sooner or later. We absolutely WILL be able to ensure the basic needs of everyone without making anyone's life hell quite soon.
"Post-scarcity" is centuries away for most things, but when it comes to food and shelter, it is now within striking distance.
Yea we are a ways away from the Star Trek replicator. We should always look for ways to help those in need but also we need to teach our kids that the world owes us nothing.
