Wow. That's horrible news. I had thought Chile was a prosperous capitalist country and from the comments it sounds like that was true a very short time ago.

I hope somehow things work out for your country. The last thing the world needs is any more Communism.

Yes of course, today in Chile we had a referendum for a new constitution. It all started a little over a year ago with horrible protest across the capital (that included burning down several metro stations...), And for the last year we have had smaller repeats of those protests (similar to the BLM protests, only even dumber). It crippled us economically even before Corona. The protesters wanted "change" and that means burning everything to the ground (including churches), all the extreme leftist groups pounced at the chance, and took control of the protests.... So now a year later we had a referendum to either keep or absolutely destroy everything... And guess what won?

And when I say "extreme leftist groups" I mean exactly what I say. Actual Communists, from the freaking communist party, the kind that back Maduro to this day.

On an unrelated note, any of you lads willing to get married? My brother and I need a green card.

Although I am not intimately knowledgeable with Chilean politics, if I recall that leftist uprising came out of just about nowhere as Chile is considered by many to be the most prosperous country in south America, and the previous government was just evaporated and replaced. Some months later the popular Evo Morales was also tractored out of Bolivia in one day.

I thought both of them reeked of foreign intervention.

I do not think that 'dumber than BLM' is possible.

Sadly it is, and it's been going on for longer too. The protesters also use the flag of an indigenous group here in Chile, who has also committed several terrorist acts against farmers (Burning down houses, farms, equipments, and beating up people). All in the name of "justice" sounds familiar? (Just add race to it and you got BLM), this group is also known for being lazy (as in culturally they DO NOT use their land to farm in, so they want more land to NOT USE IT)

Every form of societal cancer seems to revolve around some form of identitarianism in 2020.

Any group that is held to no standards at all, like blacks in America, will progressively deteriorate, as it screws up incentives. It should matter whether you work or whether you are a career criminal, but in America, the latter is treated better.

what sort of changes are there going to be for the new constitution in comparison to the old one?

We don't know. It depends on who gets chosen to rewrite it. The extreme left here wanted to basically remove proprietary rights (or leave them absolutely weakened). The biggest change they hope to make, and the one that will destroy Chile, is altering the minimal quorum needed to pass new laws, and so the same problem that has happened to every other latin American country will happen here. Instead of moving forward, we will be going in circles depending on who has the power (right wing or left wing), and NOTHING will get done, every new government will undo everything made by the former one in a stupid waste of resources that we don't actually have. I predict our external debt will go through the roof in the next few years.

That sounds familiar. This seems to be by design by the globalist bankers and elites.

I don't know anything about South American politics, why would Chile be a haven?

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 13 ▼
– Dual_Fire [S] 13 points 5 years ago +13 / -0

It was a haven for several decades after Pinochet, in the sense that thanks to our iron tight constitution, the government could not do radical and sweeping changes to the laws. It made it so that Chile became a place where foreign companies could invest in, and the special brand of Latin american socialism could never quite screw everything up like in every other latin American country.

In the US we can't easily just throw out our constitution and make a new one, but once court packing starts, our constitution will become toilet paper.

Can you explain how it is possible that the rioting scum burning people to death in stores and vandalizing the people's property won?

permalink save report block reply
▲ 8 ▼
– Dual_Fire [S] 8 points 5 years ago +8 / -0

This is something I hope doesn't happen in the US, since you guys are so big it would take way too many people, but here in Chile? If a couple thousand people commit vandalism, they are a TON of people... And sadly they were proven right. It seems that in order to make change in Chile you HAVE to burn shit up... The sort of precedent that sets for the future scares me shitless.

In short, they won cause no one was willing to fight them, and if they did, they were absolutely vilified by the media, even if it was justified. Every cop that hurts a protester gets fired, ever business that complains gets trashed both online and in real life... And so we became the next Venezuela, it will take a little while, a few years at most, but we are on track for the Latin American special.

Take a wild (((guess)))

In a more serious answer, despite being some Soros connections, the financing has been the subject of debate for several months, we thinks it comes from other interest groups in latin america and the US (far left ones). Some say even Maduro is sending money for it, but I haven't seen conclusive evidence.

I am certainly not 'you guys' if you're talking about the US, but I fear that this sort of American nonsense is coming to Europe as well.

It seems that in order to make change in Chile you HAVE to burn shit up... The sort of precedent that sets for the future scares me shitless.

You're not wrong. It is one of the causes of the Roman Revolution, which saw a republican form of government be replaced by an imperial autocracy. And that is the least bad outcome, because an autocracy is still far better than anarchy.

In short, they won cause no one was willing to fight them, and if they did, they were absolutely vilified by the media, even if it was justified. Every cop that hurts a protester gets fired, ever business that complains gets trashed both online and in real life...

This is so unlike Latin America, at least in my conception of it. I thought you guys were based, and that this sort of nonsense only happened in America.

We were based, but we also got affected by the useless Social Justice types. We even had to amend the name of several government buildings a couple years ago "for the sake of inclusion".

That last bit need an explanation, spanish is a gendered language, and that means that most words have either a male or female connotation. Well guess who didn't like that? So there has been an influx of useless name changes, additions and even laws passed in the name of "inclusion" we even have a special murder type only for women "Femicidio", that it's somehow worse than normal murder. It's just all so tiresome. Some of this even during a supposed "right wing" government.

Socialism and Communism are endemic in Latin America. Chile was one of the only based countries in the whole continent. I weep for you Dual_Fire.

Economic socialism, yes.

But this sort of identitarian trash is poison in a way that universal health care is not.
