Oh I wasn't thinking being a terrible person on a macro scale, where all you think about is hate, but moreso on a personal scale. Think about how many actors are complete shitheads, druggies, sex fiends, but as long as the haha's flow, all is brushed under the rug. Kevin Spacey fucks teenage boys but he's incredibly talented, for instance. Chevy Chase is by many accounts a complete asshole and Bill Murray is impossible to work with and bitches and moans constantly, but on camera things look good.
You can be a terrible person and still be funny. But what it requires is a unsatisfied need for socialization and attention. If you can get that attention and praise elsewhere, then the need to grind out a sense of humor is gone. And even worse for a sense of humor, sometimes people will complement unfunny but powerful people's jokes, reinforcing bad humor. There's been an absolutely bonkers flip in the public collective opinion of drug manufacturing companies in the past year. For all my life until 8 months ago, these companies were money grubbing thieves, committing literal murder for not giving away expensive to develop and expensive to manufacture and expensive to test drugs, and we need generics of everything (which is a valid opinion: fuck companies that would mildly tweak formulas for the pure benefit of profit without any aid to people.)
Now all of a sudden, cheap and effective alternatives are fucking VILE AND EVIL and how DARE you consider depriving these companies of the ability to manufacture billions of doses of a new drug at a major premium and forcing another billions of shots 6 months from now you are KILLING THE WORLD.
