This is, truly, the only place I'd advertise this regularly. Come to Knoxville Tennessee. Or find a rural suburb around Knox. Red, red as far as you can see. And white. Even the black people here are white - with apologies to our black brethren. You know what I mean. Even the Democrats are Republicans. This is the holy land.
Reasonably large Hispanic population, mostly illegal, and you might just have to accept it. They built most of the area, and did the best, fastest, cheapest roofing job I've ever seen. I know immigration is one of the hot button issues on KIA but dammit I admire Mexican laborers. Anyone who works like a goddamned animal to feed their families embodies the American spirit more than the rest of us who sell insurance and fap to Sonic inflation porn on DeviantArt.
I have such a love hate relationship with Illinois. Mid/down-staters are the best people I've ever met. Chicago is still my favorite city on Earth. I worked for the legislature for years and learned to a depressing level just how fucked the state is. Democrats are so good at being evil Emperor Palpatine would learn a few things. Republicans are so ineffectual they're almost controlled opposition. Madigan is a goddamn vampire.
I left. I'm happier for it. But I get through IL a couple times a year. I miss being accepted by an entire culture of raging alcoholics.
Need way more context on this one. I flat out don't buy it as presented. Default assumption should be that every person here, including the cops, I guarantee is a Mormon and they all belong to the same ward. This guy is probably getting arrested for drinking a coffee or sneaking a beer.
They're going to be in for some serious cognitive dissonance when they find out George Floyd was a police informant.
Defendant will move for an order as follows: [....] Any and all files pertaining to Mr. Floyd’s cooperation as an informant (snitch) for the Minneapolis Police, FBI or any other state or federal law enforcement agency either before or after May 6, 2019. This includes information from ongoing and closed investigations, documents or other information prepared as part of the vetting process to become an informant/cooperator and any police report/case materials where Mr. Floyd worked as a cooperator, CI, CRI, concerned citizen informant or other status.
I'm not a lawyer. This could be strictly exploratory. If not, then we're all in for a good round of laughs.
Read actual history. Too many fantasy authors do zero research and their worlds feel completely intellectually empty as a result. A Distant Mirror by Barbara Tuchman is a great starting point if you want a huge overview of 14th century life - black death, church schism, endless wars, nobility, peasant revolts, marauding bandit armies, castles, princesses, it's all in there.
Nothing will make your book suck more than not doing research, and yes, that applies to both scifi and fantasy.
Police identified him to be intoxicated at the time he was handling the weapon. He is fucked. That is the noose by which he will be hanged. Watch this man get fucked. Watch the Mckloskeys get fucked. They're filthy rich, and their ordeal has already cost them a fortune. They won't be the last.
Here is the lesson for everyone. Get pro gun legislators (read: Republicans) elected. Support pro gun states attorneys. Get to know candidates, study their records, and actually campaign for the good ones. You will get known, recognized, and heard by them. Be in contact with your local chapter of the NRA, and find out what they are doing to actually protect your right to defend yourself. It is being seriously jeopardized. The NRA isn't worth dick but this is a prime issue they should be out working on.
Lobby your state representatives and senators (yes, you can do this yourself, just pick up the phone and call their offices). You don't want to deal with their staff. Despite what they tell you, your concerns aren't going anywhere but the trash. You want to meet with your legislator personally and find out what they are doing to improve 2nd amendment protections in your state. A lot of them will meet with random constituents by appointment. It isn't a hassle. it's their job.
Basically, we all need to get off our fat asses and get involved. This is something boomers actually did right. Through stubborn tyranny of will, they're always pestering legislators about whatever bullshit issue pissed them off that morning. Oughtta be a law that the paperboy actually puts the paper on my porch rather than in the bushes. Dumb shit like that. But even stupid laws get passed if you're not just sitting on a message board complaining about it.
I'm not much of a joiner or even a starter of threads, or even a commenter for that matter. I regularly spectated on KIA2 Reddit without commenting. But I want this to succeed so I'll even start threads just to keep conversation going.
I'd like to start weekly gaming threads, since we are a predominantly gamer community. I also wanted to start a monthly "what are we reading" thread, about comics, books, literature of any type. Not sure if that's mission creep or too far outside of culture war, but I think the occasional escapes from raging at the news 24/7 is healthy.
Yeah I figured you weren't an American, all good for the misunderstanding. However she is not a bureaucrat. Her role, like all other elected members office, is political. She's effectively hired for the job based on her political values.
Legislators do have to be cautious in how and when they engage in campaign activities. If she or her staff were to solicit campaign contributions using a government phone line, official government email, or even sitting at her desk in her government office in DC, those are all violations and her campaign would be fined by the Federal Election Commission. So, like all politicians, she has a separate campaign office, funded by private contributions.
Campaigning feels distasteful but it's essential to our entire political system.
This is a letter sent from her campaign office. If it was sent on official government letterhead from her federally funded office, that would be a violation of campaign finance laws.
I hate the woman with a passion but this is pretty standard stuff and I don't see any impropriety.
On August 2, 2020, Illinois State Representative, LaShawn K. Ford, held a press conference in Evanston to call for the suspension of history classes in Illinois public schools. According to NBC News Chicago, Representative Ford and leaders “in education, politics and other areas” publicly requested an end to the teaching of history in Illinois because “current history teachings lead to a racist society and overlook the contributions of women and minorities,” as reported by the NBC Chicago article.
Trump was the most prepared, on-point he's ever been. He was ALL. OVER. EVERYTHING. But he also couldn't back down for a second and barely granted Biden any of his own time to talk. I'm sure it was a deliberate strategy to expose Biden's weakness, but I think it was a bad one that will turn people off. The gamble, of course, is that Biden will come off a SO weak that people will be turned off him more. Guess we'll see. Biden looked like the weakest presidential candidate in my lifetime.
