I think it's worth considering the possibility that Trump isn't the target this time, but Biden. I'm assuming that Pence cannot be bought and they know he cannot be bought, but if they manage to win the election despite their months of proxy warfare against their own voters they could use this to remove Biden and replace him with Harris.
