Just wanted to vent a bit about my older brother after I was at his son birthday party. We do not talk much so I decided to catch up with his life.
- He got offended when I told him that he is the whitest guy I know. Apparently calling him white was somehow bad. I only said that because without lotion he burns in the sun, full red in a minute.
- We talked about what books he reads now since it is his favorite hobby. Apparently he only reads books with harems in them and lesbians which is fine by me of-course but then he took time to educate me about "the spectrum" which by the way is retarded.
- He only watches movies with a lesbian or at least a bisexual chick as main role
- He told me how good it is to change D&D dark elves and orcs - he does not play it and knows I am a fan - think he only mentioned to piss me off
- He like socialism for some unknown reason, people under socialism worked hard as fuck without having a choice in the matter (parents are from Romania) and he is at a level of lazy that I can not describe.
- Very pro putting social political messages in games/movies and books.
- Totally ignores his son education, the boy was hurting my grandmas dog and he did not care - I mean take him to a doctor behavior not just pull her by the tail. Luckily his wife is a huge capitalist fan, conservative, daughter of an ortodox priest so the kid will be fine.
- Hates J.K. Rowling now :)) I wonder why as he used to be a fan. I chuckled at this one.
- And the worst part he apparently hates me for not being miserable - not kidding. Just because I like what I do (although the company is "progressive"), I love my beautiful wife and I watch my health apparently is somehow privilege although we are brothers and had the same start.
Conclusion: He apparently developed some kind of kinks I do not want to know. He is doing poorly at his job because he is lazy and would rather read then do his work. Hates society and anyone who is happy. Hates being a white male. And wants everyone to be miserable and remove the opportunity to be successful from others. How high does this rank on a SJW scale?
Bonus: What my grandma has to say about socialism: If you are in a point in life where someone else tells you what to do and what to think then you are the same as dead. (is a rough translation from Romanian)
I'm in the same boat with my twin brother - I don't think he's as far down the rabbit hole as yours, but I'm constantly telling him to beware the cult mindset.
The night before my daughter's bday he sent my mom a bunch of texts about being embarrassed that he was the only one in the family who didn't vote for Trump. He apologized the next day and said he was "in a bad place" when he sent them.
There definitely does seem to be a strong correlation with disliking people for being happy in the US and not hating ourselves for being white/American/well-off/whatever.
Misread this as "reddit hole" and at this point, given the context, there's not much difference.
Edit:
[x] Doubt.
He backtracked when he realised none of his bait caught any interest. He was either looking for converts or someone to argue his virtue against.
fraternal twin?
identical
Strange. When and how do you think you guys started to deviate so much from one another?
Odd you ask since my wife and I just had that conversation. Around 22yo - he kept having people "break" into his car and take stuff b/c he was too lazy to lock it. He said he didn't care b/c they weren't taking anything he cared about. I asked, what about the fact that they are breaking into your personal property without your permission? He just shrugged, didn't care.
First time I've ever not understood his thinking.
That sounds like that's probably a while after you two began to diverge. People don't change on a dime usually, for him to be incomprehensible to you at that point probably means there were already a few steps before that.
I agree. I think as soon as we stopped living together we started to diverge.
Did he go to college?
We both did, he didn't graduate though, dropped out. We're both programmers now as well - I'm much more accomplished though because he has little drive while I was heavily driven to provide a comfortable living for my family.
He's also gay and childless, I imagine both those things have heavily influenced his direction. For the record I'm very pro-gay marriage and my wife and I used to be very close to him and his husband, but that was a long time ago.
When they're born.
Identical twins are the reason concepts like your blood or genetics determining your life is wrong.
Two objects identical in makeup can never, ever experience the same events in the same way and will always turn out different as a result.
Additionally for identical twins sometimes that's enough of a reason for wanting a unique identity not based on their twin or solely through comparison.
It's a little ambiguous what you mean there, but twin studies have shown time and again that things such as IQ and temperament are significantly hereditary.
Not to discount the supplemental effects of life and environment also influencing those things, which if that's all you're claiming that's fine. But if you're claiming genetics don't influence life outcomes at all based on twins, that's patently wrong.
Which is irrelevant to historic concepts of who/what someone is determining what happens to them and to what experiences they will undergo the moment they are born.
Astrology: the stars determine what happen to you.
Divine Fate/Destiny: God[s] determine what happens to you.
Someone's blood/genetics is just another example in history of these superstitions trying to work out why things happen. Examples based on primitive thinking and understanding of how the world and beyond works.
For the example here identical twins disprove your blood/genetics determining what happens to you because they share the same blood and genetics. Additionally newborns have zero capability to utilise whatever intelligence they may possess.
Even accounting for spontaneous mutations where blood types can change, or attempting to control every single variable under lab conditions it isn't possible for distinct entities to experience the same existence.
You seem confused about what constitutes proof, and apparently biology if you keep using blood types and genetics interchangeably.
The existence of one factor doesn't disprove the existence other factors. That environmental effects exist doesn't disprove genetic effects. Nor, as you seemingly think, is pointing out evidence of genetic effects an attack on the existence of enviromental effects.
There is ample evidence that both exist, and trying to deny the evidence of genetic contribution because it makes you feel uncomfortable is the exact kind of ignorant superstition that you just decried.
lmao
I don't think anyone but an actual fool would say that your life is 100% genetically determined.
Even if it was 70%, a single random event can massively change you enough to make it look like you are nothing similar. Getting beaten up one day at school causes one to pick up working out, leading to sports, leading to a very active lifestyle different than his identical nerdier brother.
Many historic concepts and ideas are foolish because they're ill-formed.
I would put "were" there instead but there are still flat-earthers, anti-vaxxers, practising witches, and a lot of other historic/primitive practices still going on today around the world not just limited to less developed populations of humanity.
Destiny/Fate is a fairly big one of these that still has some debate kicking around relating to free will and predestination but that deals with things on the quantum level.
For a more topical example see astrology and horoscopes where star patterns are believed to influence said Destiny.
Same idea, different medium.
Par for the course. The person you know is in the grips of something, you can't really change it, forgiveness when times comes. I've known too many mid to late twenty somethings who have virtually no experience at life outside "I have my phone and a computer / console and I watched a lot of good stuff." who are ready to take over the world and tell us it should be just how they want. "UBI is good, it'll let people stop working bad jobs and go to university to really educate themselves." They see only the shiny, "Oooh! Stop working a frustrating job, go to University and get a degree that'll pay out a lot more and doesn't cost a dime and just makes society better." Talk to them about campus life, the uselessness of a great many degrees and the levels of indoctrination, full on with proof, stats, etc... Nope, they disagree, it's the best way they say, as they play on the 1200$ iPhone their parents bought them. Not 17 or 21, but like 29 or 30 years old. It's frightening.
The underlying problem is the massive distance we are from reality. There is so much they know that is fundamentally wrong that the distance cannot be breached. People have to be willing to listen and learn the way we use language because newspeak can't work. As long as someone responds like an NPC, they cannot be saved.
I think the issue can be fixed in some ways. I think Yuri Bezmenov was pretty spot on with his predictions - but he underestimated capitalism's effect on delaying thing, essentially getting the time frame wrong. The other thing he couldn't predict was the Internet and the iPhone - propaganda can spread at crazy speeds. That makes things go faster, but at the same time the Internet and the iPhone also allow for red pilling, and there's been a lot of red pilling over the past four years, lot of people only seeing the conservative message for the first time without insane disdain. Election will tell.
Yuri's mistake was thinking the origin of the problem was the USSR. The origin was New York. Now, San Francisco causes cancer too. The USSR couldn't exist as it did without the American empire propping it up. FDR industiralized them for free during WW2 or it would have died sooner.
Yeah, so do I.
Oh, wait, that's not the kind of movie you meant. Never mind.
Yeap :P not talking about porn. That is one discussion I am not ready to have with him.
And that's how you know that the only reason he's bought into this marxist shit is because he thinks parroting it mean some rainbow haired she-twink will let him cum in her if he says the right words.
Sounds like he's an inch away from going tranny tbh
I honestly think he is trying to develop some form, any form of kink so that he can describe himself as non-binary or something like that. He just wants to be a victim so bad but being a white guy who likes girls is in his way and is so unfair to him.
This is part of the issue I have with the continuing expansion of the LGB> label.
Those 3 address sexuality, and even then B and L are the same thing, attraction to the same sex so homosexuality, so really H would cover things there and be far more consistent with the use of B.
Everything else that comes after that has nothing to do with sexual attraction, being either personal identity or a particular fetish, like sapiosexuality. Being attracted to smart people isn't something special, just like being attracted to strong people, or fast people isn't something special. Competitive evolutionary traits are attractive to people because from a biology perspective those are traits which can benefit a partner and the potential offspring they may create.
Oddly enough it's most of the other groups beyond B that are the ones in high profile stories drawing ire, even from within the group itself. See "drop the T" or whatever the thing is.
I suppose that is more common - over the last 4-6 years I've seen such behavior all over the various communities I follow - people who are very obviously cis (and often very obviously straight as well) deciding to start constantly talking about any non-vanilla turn-on they might have.
It typically ends with them eventually coming out as 'non-binary', or 'genderqueer' and slapping some pronouns on their profile page. None of it means anything other than 'I've become a radical leftist'.
It's interesting how they perceive being white to be vanilla, or boring. I guess because straight white Christian men are the norm and they want to be "special". If his frame of reference wasn't limited to the US, he would understand how rare we are globally.
There are a lot of presumptions like this which often mix concepts up to the point they become interchangeable by some despite being incorrect.
Dom/Domme and Top/sub and bottom being a very common one for example. Likewise associations between both of those and sex, in part due to prevalence of the majority of Dominants/Tops being men and the majority of subs/bottoms being women.
So an expectation forms, not entirely unrealistically, due to group demographs.
Isn't that usually the case?
No no, that fits. People into socialism do not want to work. They want everything provided to them by a generous benefactor like a parent or a government. They do not understand wealth creation and think that instead of being generated through hard work, it is some finite, static quantity. The result of this mindset is that they view wealthy people as greedy thieves who won't share (no one is better than anyone else in quality or effort, so it can't be that they worked harder or smarter), and poor people as oppressed products of their circumstances without agency of any kind. (they are projecting their belief in their own lack of agency, hence their laziness)
Your grandma is based btw, love that quote from her.
Thank you, I do love my grandma. In fact I recently named my baby daughter after her.
"Grandma" is a very odd name choice for a baby ?
That is middle name first one is Victoria
Your brother is a fucking idiot.
Oddly enough he is not. He is actually smart (was doing pretty good in math competitions) and he was not always like this. In the family growing up he was the smart one. This is the guy who used to recommend books to me like malazan book of the fallen, wheel of time, dune and enders game. We used to watch Firefly and Farscape. I think he changed because everyone around him are somehow happy and doing ok while he is miserable which seems horribly unfair as he thinks himself smarter then the rest. So now he blames society for not being fair and hates everyone who is happy. This is how I see it. I do hope he changes in time and I still love my brother and I want to be around for my nephew as I do think he may need my advice / help growing up.
Knowing something doesn't make you smart. I know quite a few medical doctors and they've done some of the stupidest shit I can remember, often after being warned about what they were doing would lead to problems that then happened because... they didn't listen to the warnings.
Be prepared for the tv series of this to suck.
I think the crux of the matter is him having a distorted view of the importance of computational intelligence in obtaining success and/or happiness. General intelligence is a very important trait/amalgamation of traits for determining life outcome. But it is far from the only one with a significant impact, but in many facets of society it isn't uncommon to see it offhandedly treated as the root of all worth.
Attention to detail/conscientiousness, grit/willpower, empathy/emotional intelligence, agreeability and many others will all affect how well you fare in a given arena. At the cutting edge of STEM where that analytical intelligence might serve him best, often it is the addition of a certain creative spark that leads to the best problem solvers, able to tie together novel applications of concepts into a useful result.
Which is all to say that he may well be the smartest man on the team in one respect, but still not rightly be the most deserving of rewards. Until he learns to accept his own deficiencies in some of those areas and weigh them against others alongside his presumed superior intelligence he's going to keep feeling cheated by life, rather than realising he's been playing without understanding half the rules.
Robert Nozick had an interesting take on this: https://www.libertarianism.org/publications/essays/why-do-intellectuals-oppose-capitalism
That's a good hypothesis, though the final paragraph falls a bit short of demonstrating evidence for the theory re: women, as they are by a significant margin more likely to oppose meritocracy and as such failing to observe a deviation does not mean one has not occurred.
I am guessing that your brother is not happy in his marriage and is acting out to compensate.
Is not but I do not blame the wife. While she is not perfect, try being married to someone who is lazy and does not get involve in the actual relation. Honestly she has a patience I find incredibly, she just assumes all responsibilities and tries to help him, give him space etc. I think is because she is religious and firm believer in the family.
Who wants to live like that?
Pathetic.
Sounds like a boring person to be around
Lol, this part isn't SJW.
He's clearly spending too much time watching lesbian porn.
Is not exactly SJW but trying to tell me about the spectrum and where his characters are on it does seem a bit SJW. Sadly he used to have great taste in books, my favorite books have been recommended to me by him. In his deference he does say the books are not well written he just likes the subject.
Based on his old book recommendations if you haven't read anything by Brandon Sanderson I can guarantee you're in for a treat. His Mistborn trilogy or Stormlight Archives (ongoing) are the top of the list there.
I read Mistborn and it was fine. The problem I had with the books was the endings, it was rushed and always seemed forced. I wrote Brandon Sanderson to tell him I did not like the endings of the first 2 (at the time I had only read the first 2) but liked his books :)) and he actually answered. Cool guy.
That's a fair point, there were a few points that were conspicuously ignored in the endings of the first two, but in retrospect were probably left omitted to help keep the sense of mystery until the 3rd book. It definitely seems like he doesn't write his series books as well contained single stories, just episodes in an arc. His standalone books are better for that, but also a little less characterful.
But yeah he's also just a nice dude who likes what he does and likes his readers. Which is depressingly rare these days.
Are you sure he's an SJW? Could just be a run of the mill coomer
