I will take it a step further than Wizard is willing to. I do care, I do want them to lose their jobs, and I do think it's hilarious that they're finally getting fucked by consequences of their own decisions.
Agreed. I want them broke, starving, homeless, and dying in a ditch somewhere. Just like they want for me.
The real ones will realize that it's a blessing when five of them band together and make a banger indie game making them filthy rich instead of working for corpo overlords.

Yep, I don't care. They are making nothing but garbage. The good ones will find something else to do or just go make their own games. The barrier to entry for high quality game development is very low right now, so it's easy for them.
The terrible ones, well they will have more time to spend on Reddit moderation and figure out how to milk the system more. So maybe I need them all still with the AAA devs so they can use their energy on making games bitching that they are ugly and don't look like a real woman, that I can then ignore.

Those piss me off. AI is absolutely destroying the coding profession and they just laugh, but if it generates a single 32x32 pixel art for a game, they want it burned to the ground. Zero sympathy for them, and I have zero concerns about a small dev making a based game absolutely stuff with AI assets if it's not slop and it works.
There was a funny comment that was something like 'don't think of it as game devs losing their jobs, think of it as Walmart gaining associates'.
It's a tool, and just like any tool, it can be used lazily or as a powerful force multiplier.
When the force behind it is a third worlder on some work visa fucking up global digital infrastructure...well let's just say I have some concerns about who should have access to such tools. As usual Europeans and the Japanese are about the only populations on earth that can be trusted with access to technology.
What annoys me is the entitlement of some of those laid off. They act like losing their job as an assistant narrative creator for a game that only ten thousand people will ever play is on par with a lead engineer math genius being fired from NASA or an earthquake leveling an entire town.
It's just a game, and probably not a particularly special one either. We already have over one million of them on mobile platforms and hundreds of thousands on Steam. Get over it. Find a career doing something more useful...preferably not something involving life-critical work because I don't want people to die.
They are all, at their core, redditors. Remember that infamous reddit thread that asked reddit commies what job they'll do once the revolution happens, and like 99% of them said shit like 'poet' and 'artisan pottery maker'? Not a single fucking one of them volunteered to clean shit out of storm drains at 2am during a thunderstorm. The believe that by nature of existing, the universe owes them a comfortable safe and pleasant life from start to finish where they can simply engage in frivolous hobbies to their heart's content, and anything that gets in the way of that is a gross injustice.
Year by year I grow to understand why our ancestors used exile as a perfectly valid form of punishment for societal malcontents. Round them all up, plop them down in the middle of nowhere with some basic tools and tell them 'make a life for yourself, or die. We'll check back in 20 years to see how it went.'
Some of the people getting laid off have been their for 35+ years. You get that used to something and it just becomes a part of your daily life for decades. One day, with minimal warning, you get a letter that says "k thx, bye."
I suppose "entitlement" still technically fits, but I don't think the primary driver is arrogance or delusions of grandeur. Just the sense of betrayal after such a long period of familiarity and stability. And to be replaced with jeets is the final insult.
Even if these studios are usually filled with the worst people, it'd be difficult for anyone to take that situation gracefully.

Western game devs are 95% leftists. If I could push a button and delete the entire industry overnight, I wouldn't hesitate for even a moment.

We're actually really happy about the layoffs and wish there were even more of them.
I want the gaming industry to collapse. I want there to be a thousand new independent studios made by a dozen guys to take their place. Then in the coming years natural selection will grant success to those who make what the consumers actualy want. Then I want the same to happen to the film industry.
80% of "gaming industry" jobs dontt do anything.
I literally know someone working at a studio of 40 employees and only 6 are actually working. The rest "manage" the test.
