Right now X is blowing up with leftists saying Mamdani has “fixed” the budget. It’s of course because he took a massive 8 billion loan from the state, then kicked the can on the NYC pensions so the debt from those over doubles by next (with interest). The problem with this argument is 80% of America doesn’t care, they are functionally economically illiterate, and ~40% have no concept of time other than the next 10 seconds.
Trying to tell leftists about a budget is like trying to explain refrigeration to South Asians. The overwhelming majority won’t understand it, the few that can don’t want the rest to understand it because they’re running a con off it.

This is the correct take. Republicans have no claim on fiscal responsibility. They spend just as much as democrats, and on shit that is mostly just as harmful.
There will be a legitimate third party eventually. Whether or not the leftists beat us to it is largely a function of how soon traitor Trump's control of the party ends. Probably not happening until the boomers are mostly gone.
I think you guys should pay close attention to Britain, where the long-entrenched two party system is currently undergoing a massive shakeup. The old 'Conservatives' have been devoured by the containment party Reform, and the genuinely right wing Restore party. On the left, Labour is in the process of being consumed by the essentially third worldist Green party. It doesn't seem significant yet, but this is the most radical change in British politics in over a century.
I can see something similar happening in the US at some point, where the Dems and Republicans are replaced by more extreme version of themselves. Whether they are deep state ordained containment parties depends on how dire things get, I suppose.

I think we've crossed the event horizon for arguing a case and persuading people. There might be a few undecided stragglers, but the entrenched opposition is impervious to words and information, so I'm not sure how worthwhile that effort actually is anymore. If people still want to engage in persuasion rather than coercion then it needs to be done on an emotional level. There's this big misconception that humans are rational creatures and it's not really true. There's a finite subset of the population that can at times engage in reasoned thought and decision making but most people operate purely on emotion and post-hoc rationalizations.
Taking and using power is a far better argument.
It's kind of neat to be in a post-argument world. It means the lines are finally drawn. The data is so obvious, the only explanation for where you fall is your choice of allegiance.
If you're operating from a Republican, stand with the boots (police, military) and we need to help israel argument then the situation is dire. If you are operating from a more revolutionary/Marxian point then there is a huge crossover.

I wasted years of my life trying to make evidence based logical arguments with Democrats. They have no desire for the truth. The Bible says not to argue with fools. Or to throw pearls before swine.

How should people with a certain level of economic literacy go about sharing that with others? How do you convince people to learn something like basic accounting? Incorporate it as part of a shopkeeper game?
There are really only 2 ways. Parents are ultimately the best way to teach it, school is a lost cause, so the other are those that learn it the hard way or via trial and error.
People are also going to have to reconcile with the reality that over half the country will never actually be able to understand economics. You can ingrain saving, balancing accounts, etc. however you can’t force someone to understand why, most people don’t understand risk nor are they capable of understanding anything above basic arithmetic anymore.
The trouble is that trial and error doesn't teach you that assets = liabilities + equity, and you won't know to look for that unless you start studying accounting.
Also, things like minimum payments on credit cards enable some very large errors before average people realize something is going wrong, and it can take a lot to course correct.
