TV maybe has a hard-coded DNS server configured somewhere?
You'd think if the firewall was smart that it would block DNS to other servers. Or proxy them. But I guess that would break things and not be possible for secure DNS.
that's your problem right there, fuck smart TVs.
just plug a PC into it and be done with it. that only can you run a proper ad blocker, but you can gasp actually use a proper keyboard to type things in to the search bar.
Do they even make normal TVs anymore? Even the cheapest, smallest Walmart Specials are all Roku TVs now. I think even Sonys super high end ones are too.
They just call it a "monitor", and it costs more.
To me, it's pretty safe though that smart TV isn't connected to the internet. Could it theoretically connect to an open Wifi or have a modem? Yeah. But I doubt it.
normal tvs are now "commercial TVs", no smart features and built higher quality, but more expensive.
