The one time I saw armed security at a McDonald’s was in Western Samoa on a humanitarian deployment. Then I looked it up when I got back and it’s actually common for armed security at McDonald’s in black neighborhoods.
Western Samoa is a shithole, parents had their kids try to sell cheap trinkets to visiting sailors and if they don’t buy the kids punch and kick the back of your legs trying to get a reaction so they can go cry to the military base for “assault” money. I ended up walking everywhere because one cab driver I met was trying to solicit his niece as a prostitute and the other was drinking heavily and playing pool with me then offered a free ride because he had to start his shift.
Depends on the neighborhood. When I was in graduate school there was a McD nearby that was drive through only, had bullet proof glass, and when you got your food, they passed it back and forth through a metal box underneath the window, like at an old school bank drivethrough.
More recently, in many urban centers I've seen armed guards at small convenience stores (CVS / Walgreens / etc). San Francisco, DC, Seattle, Baltimore, Chicago, etc...

I've seen apparent security (unsure if armed, but they camp at the entrance/exit) at some supermarkets in large European cities and it is fairly disturbing that it is necessary. Cultural enrichment, you know.
The counters at fast food restaurants in black neighborhoods have more security than bank counters do in white neighborhoods.

You're kidding me. Armed security at a McD? I'd be shocked if there was security.

The European mind cannot comprehend that.

Probably saves them more money on insurance premiums than it costs them to hire the security.
Yeah, American Samoa is way better. Hawaii even more so. Oakland not so much.
One of the blogs I read is a guy who covers shootings at fast food places in a three state region. It's that fucking common.
Can confirm.
