They’ve been threatening the audience with Starfleet Academy for decades. When UPN first came out as a network and saw success with Voyager there were rumors of them doing something that would appeal to younger audiences. Setting a show in starfleet academy was a natural choice for that. Mercifully it didn’t happen, but I’ve seen the rumors crop up every time a new series was discussed. It was always assumed actually doing it would signal the death of Star Trek. And here we are.
He was seen as a self insert of Gene Roddenberry and a Gary Sue, and he was outside of being universally loved. Even his mom seemed annoyed with him half the time.
He was (the character) a whiney, sniveling idiot. His manner of speaking was annoying. The "plots" where he's one of the main characters are idiotic at best.
A planet/culture with the death penalty for waling on the grass?
An "illegal maneuver" that he thinks they can get away with that kills a classmate?
Just the first 2 that pop up :/

Stargaze Stargate SG-1 made a joke in their 200th episode, cunningly named '200', about the Wormhole X-Treme parody show was playing with the idea of a soft reboot but with younger actors and upping the drama ala the CW network. It was laughed at at the time.
Then Stargate Universe came out and was exactly that. First episode literally has 2 of the solders fucking in a cupboard while on duty.
Stargate 90210 was a term used to refer to it.
And still shows try and do the same thing despite it having multiple examples over the last 2 decades of failing.
Some school drama bullshit is fun for a one off episode here and there (eg Picard getting shown his past via Q in TNG) as a way to expand the lore and show us a side of a main character we haven't seen before. But that's about it.
I somehow suspected the series was almost purely intended for the purposes of trolling older fans. Just given how far out of their way they went to shit on everything possible.
Agreed. They are simply using investor money to capture our culture and heritage and will simply wait us out while brainwashing the next generation. All your past heroes will be gender or race swapped (or just deconstructed into villains/pussies while the torch is passed to their DEI approved replacements).
This is why I don't shed a tear about AI eventually putting the power of movie making into anyone's hands that aren't behind the Hollywood gate. They've grown so brazen with not only capturing studios but the awards shows that dictate what is "good" or not.
Eventually, long form entertainment will be decentralized just like how social media, podcasters, etc decentralized the discussion of news and politics. Sure the corporate woke crap will still be out there, but within a week there will be "modded" versions online that purge the wokeness out I'd it, and eventually parallel wokefree fanmade movies and shows (that respect the lore) will be directly competing for the consumers time.
I really, really hope Cavill's reported meme about firing anyone who gets 40k lore wrong 3 times is true, because 40k fans will fucking devour lore accurate live action adaptations and Cavill is a big enough nerd, (and a big nerd), to do it.
40k will be laughing themselves silly all the way to the bank and utterly curbstomping all the subverted expectations and dei casting messes that have come out over the last decade or so, the Witcher and DC in particular are going to be force fed entire murders of crow because of what they lost with Cavill as a result.

I remember people thinking Wesley going to Starfleet Academy would become a series.
There were few characters I despised as much as Wesley
How come? I know the actor himself was a bit of a tool, but what did the character do?

I think it could work as a series of novels written by someone who knows Star Trek

Very true

It. Will. Be. Fucking. GLORIOUS.
Oh lord, I think I remember actually watching that episode on debut. That's the actor of Neelix in there with them.
Eat the slop piggies!
That checks out at least.
I saw this fairly recently. Hilarious
