Is Neutral a real thing? I know the nut jobs claim a non-binary exist, is that a form of neutral? Or are the developers trying to avoid controversy around the gender issue?

It could be done in a cool way if the third option has you playing some nonhuman robot or elemental or something. But that would be interesting and therefore not allowed. I don't know anything about the game op mentioned, but since it is 2025... it is just for woke bullshit.
I'm assuming that is just to change the script between "he, she and they" accordingly. As in "gender neutral" dialogue.

They bypassed this in Hogwarts Legacy by just making it always 'they' 🤢. That's the real future, since it's cheaper.

Its almost certainly them trying to play both sides. They are aware enough to know the Body Type meme is getting heat and will lose them a market, but not confident enough to actually take a stand on it and risk losing the other market by appearing to appeal to the "chuds."
Its similar to Lords of the Fallen waiting until it had already flopped to revert to Male/Female in a big show during a patch, just to try and ride the controversy to a few more sales.
at least they acknowledge that male and female are a thing, which is the unfortunate low bar that the game industry has come to.
in real life, there is technically a very VERY (emphasis on very) low chance that someone is born intersex, so it's not technically incorrect. but we all know that it's just them trying to appease the woke backlash well still trying to appease the woke crowd.
