I have a rant ive been knocking around in my head for a while about that and it isn't fully formed yet and nobody wants to hear it anyway but tl;dr high verbal IQ may really be a sign of low-mid intelligence, because language didn't evolve for expressing truth and logic, it evolved for socializing and persuasion aka deception. People good at that ability never need to develop actually intelligence to succeed. The same way sexy blondes tend to be bimbos because they didn't need to be smart growing up. By the way what we call AIs now are examples of peak verbal IQ - great at talking and nothing inside.
I mean, people came up with the term 'wordcel' for a reason.
Once you start paying attention, it kind of catches the eye.
It’s just a logical extension of “words as magic spells”. We’ve all come to realize that certain demographics view language as purely transactional - words as nothing more than a series of passwords that generate desirable outcomes for the speaker (as opposed to a cooperative exercise in mutual pursuit of an objective truth).
This dynamic gives rise to cargo cult behaviors among low IQ demos; black “intellectuals” in particular are very likely to espouse argumentative structures which they do not even remotely understand. These idiots heard someone else say “whataboutism”, so they filed that word under “winning arguments” and proceeded to deploy it with great confidence in totally incorrect contexts.
The other side of that demonic bell curve are the high IQ people who are legitimately good at lying, pilpul, and every other form of verbal manipulation. This is what we are actually talking about when we say “verbal IQ”. It’s not the ability to communicate clearly or succinctly. It’s about spinning twenty dollar words - many of them manufactured without majority consensus - in order to define reality in blatantly self-interested terms. That is what they are so skilled at doing.
What is the point of speaking if not to effect a change on something? Is it just to hear the sound of your own voice?
I guess for a lot of people it is.
You can effect change morally and honestly, with an eye towards fostering positive development for both yourself and society. Cooperation, collaboration, mutual pursuit of a sustainable understanding that reliably maps onto our shared Darwinian reality. That’s frequently how language is used in homogenous high trust societies.
The purpose of speaking is to impart information. Your purpose in imparting that information, and even it's accuracy is case by case.
There’s something to be said for wordsmiths/ linguists like Tolkien, but their intelligence showed through their writing, versus their writing being phrased to appear intelligent. Overall I would agree, no one believes the “used car salesman” is intelligent except those he cons through deception.
The "high verbal IQ minority" meme is a straight lie. Pick up a copy of the 1994 book The Bell Curve. The authors are libs who spend hundreds of pages embarrassingly admitting race realism. There's an aside at one point talking about stereotypes. They have a throwaway line, something along the lines of "and, of course, everyone knows jews are notoriously low intelligence." The high verbal IQ meme is an invention of the 21st century.
It’s an inherently retarded assertion. He’s basically saying that guns are created for robbing banks. Truth is critically important in socialization. But hey, maybe someone with a genetic predisposition for dishonesty would struggle to conceive of truth and logic as valid facets of communication. On some level, it’s like we’re trying to explain internal monologue to those who don’t have one. They can’t conceive of not actively subverting you.
Do I really have to add qualifiers and exceptions to the rules in an already wordy tldr so people won't assume I'm reasoning backwards or making wild ass guesses about confusing phenomena like a simpleton? Your interpretation of my words is on the level of TRUMP TOLD PEOPLE TO DRINK BLEACH... I'm not even making an assertion here really, and I could be persuaded to change my opinion. This was not my first assumption at all, but an understanding arrived at after years of watching how people use language. Modern men who built working societies added more expressions of truth to culture and our languages. Someone assuming that must mean primitive man always had such capability, or that all functioning humans now do... well that reminds me of this analogy I heard one time about guns and banks.
Provide one level then. The most basic forms of primitive communication that express reality would be survival based like 'don't go in that jungle a demon panther lives there', or 'the season is changing, stock food', or telling the history of the village which may or may not be true and still improve the survival chances of offspring. I will concede only that White men living in harsh environments over time will have developed more concepts and words for truth, planning, and logic than jungle tribes.
