He has been the very tip of the spear against the trans "movement" in the culture war. Yeah, he can get peoples' panties in a bunch around here because of his shit talk against gamers, but he has singlehandedly done as much damage to the left as all of gamergate has.
Anybody still throwing a fit over him can't see the forest for the trees.
I'd say he's done more than GG has, we really didn't get much in the way of wins- really the only thing we did was weaken the left's defenses. He's gotten literal bills passed and is largely responsible for dismantling the trans cult in the US.
Gamergate made a large number of previously ignorant men highly politically aware just ahead of the most important election in American history. Gaming itself was definitely lost to the leftists, but it was a victory that may have ultimately cost them the war.
GamerGate is fairly directly responsible for the Adpocolypse. Advertisers demanded that YouTube and Google give them more control over where their advertising was seen, and then unanimously chose to have nothing to do with Gaming content.
The advertising rate in computer publications and websites used to be the highest in the publishing world. Shortly after GamerGate the rate had plunged and never rose again. Games journalism went from being safe, politically neutral media, friendly for every advertiser, to being very, very political.
The drop in advertising rate changed the entire business model of Games Journalism.
The end of "Native Advertising" caused (by my count) at least two AAA games to tank and then slowly starved two billion dollar publishing empires.
They changed the rules of Reddit because they were utterly terrified of the effectiveness of Gamers writing letters to advertisers. We cut off journalists money and made their jobs a joke. They have been utterly terrified that something like that may happen again ever since.
I'll keep dying on that hill because for some reason people want to throw out several right wing figures who are actually effective over a handful of disagreements on irrelevant shit
Which is silly- you can acknowledge that Matt's take on video games/anime are garbage while also acknowledging how right he is on many other issues and how effective he's been in the last few years.
Most of the criticism I see of Matt Walsh from the right is that he continues to be employed by Ben Shapiro while acting like an Internet Tough Guy while being too cowardly to acknowledge the elephant in the room,

I was actually going to say exactly that, but decided to tone it down at the last second due to how he is usually received around here.

Nobody's perfect.
