That was tik tok and local social isolation. Social contagion and cluster effect has been repeatedly proven with women. There’s an entire global marketing strategy that developed around the cluster effect, Mary Kay and Tupperware were successful for decades because of it before the internet. I went to a liberal high school, we were pressured to be gay if we were white.
I went to a conservative, rural high school and even there half the girls "were" bi. Girls claiming to be le queer for attention is a phenomenon going back decades.
