Sounds of gunfire are not unusual there, there's a shooting range 1 & 1/2 miles away, but it faces the opposite direction. These men were 1/2 mile away, nowhere near the range.
They haven't said exactly what the trio was doing or with what rifles, but it was illegal for sure.
If it was a deliberate attack? 600 yards is really a long ways off, unlike the fake "200 yards is an expert marksman" BS the Media trotted out recently. At 600 you aren't aiming, just area of effect firing.
There's no indication they even had a direct line of sight. Shooting over objects like houses and stuff means aiming is not an option, eh?
At 600 yards the target will be moving quite a bit before the bullet arrives. Not that it cannot be done! Canadians hold records for longest sniper shots, 1st, 4th and 5th in the top ten.

I read an account of it. The first shot hit a bucket the fellow was carrying, then the unnamed sniper adjusted and sent another round downrange, hitting him center mass. The poor guy had stopped to wonder why his bucket sprung a leak! He should have known Canadians were around 😝 then he sprung a leak too.
I know Texas has blue cities and all that, but it still disturbs me how far we have declined that this happened in TEXAS, and the three shooters weren't turned into Swiss Cheese by the local population.

Backyard shooting isn't technically illegal outside of the cities. It's when a single bullet escapes your yard that it's a crime. This wasn't in a city, but it wasn't exactly "out in the countryside" either. :/
